The New York Jets are 4-2, but you could argue that they gave New England their toughest game of the season. Oakland held off San Diego to go to 3-3, and these Raiders are a much improved bunch.
Opening Odds & Line Movement
Open: -2.5 -117 at Pinnacle
The Jets opened up as 2.5-point favorites on the road, then the NFL odds dipped to -1.5 before going to a pick, but then it moved in half-points back to the original of -2.5. There are a lot of people that probably want to bet on the Raiders, but the Jets' defense even looked good against the Patriots and they're fourth against the pass. Oakland is 11th in the league against the pass, and this won't be the first time that Carr has faced the Jets: he made his debut against them on the road last year. This is a different Carr, but it is also a different New York defense that didn't have Darrelle Revis, who should see a lot of Amari Cooper, the Raiders' stud of a rookie wide receiver. If Revis can take away Cooper, Carr has to find another option.
S Calvin Pryor and WR Devin Smith both have ankle injuries and it doesn't look like either will play this weekend. C Nick Mangold has been held out of practice on Thursday due to a neck injury, but he could still play, while WR Eric Decker is practicing through an ankle knock. WR Chris Owusu is working to return from a concussion, but it'll be a surprise if it is this week.
The Raiders are quite healthy and don't have anything new to report going into this game. That is great news for a team that is looking to get better and better.
The Jets are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games, and they're a sterling 4-0-1 ATS in their last five on the road. The Raiders are 3-3 ATS this season, but they've managed to cover in four of their last six games at home.
Oakland is 4-6 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Jets, who are 3-7 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in their last 10 trips to Oakland.
