Two teams that were a part of a record number of one-point games from Sunday are facing off against one another here on Week 2. The Giants are a -4 ½ favorite on the NLF odds and want to start 2-0 and need to go through New Orleans. With a total of 53 points, we could be in for yet another high-scoring game.

Giants Defense vs. Saints Offense
While the other battle between the Saints’ defense and the Giants’ offense is quite interesting, the sides of the ball that are going to win or lose this game is the Saints’ offense going up against the Giants’ defense.

New York’s defense looked pretty well last week when it counted. Dallas had just over 100 yards rushing, but it took them over 30 carries to get there. Dak Prescott was able to avoid getting sacked, but the Cowboys’ offensive line is much better than New Orleans’. Prescott was still forced to run around some and Drew Brees might be in for some running away as well, limiting the Saints’ odds across the boards in this one just a little bit.

On the other side, the Saints will be without young corner Delvin Breaux after he broke his leg in Week 1. Going against the Giants’ solid passing game is not going to help that either. Breaux is a former AFL star who was supposed to play a large role for the Saints’ secondary this season. Without him, the Saints are down a starting cornerback already, which is not going to be good against Eli Manning and crew.

How High Scoring?
The total for this game is sitting at 53 points and it has been bet upwards ever since it opened earlier in the week. After opening at 51 ½, the total has climbed up at least a point and a half, but are we getting to the points where the total is too high?

The Raiders played a good game last week, but their defense is still not good enough to slow down the Saints’ offense. The Raiders’ offense bailed them out, but this week the Giants are a much more well-rounded team. Their defense is much improved this season compared to last year, while their offense is surely better with the return of Victor Cruz.

The Giants’ running game also looked much better than expected in Week 1. The Cowboys’ defense isn’t anything to get excited about, but the Saints’ defense isn’t any better. New York ran for 113 yards on just 24 carries for an average of 4.7 yards per carry and if they are keeping the Saints’ defense honest, New Orleans is going to give up a ton of points in this one.

The Sharp Pick
The last time these two teams played one another last season the final score was one of the largest scoring games of the whole season. New Orleans ended up edging out the Giants 52-49, so while I doubt this one is as high scoring as last season’s contest, the over has to be the play here in this one for the NFL predictions for Week 2.

Both offenses will try and score quickly and play solid defense, but while that strategy might work in the first half, the second half will see these defenses were down, even more, leading to more points for both teams. Before that 52-49 game, the previous two meetings between these teams finished at 52-27 and 49-24 in 2012 and 2011. Look for more of the same here in 2016.
