Chicago started the season 3-0 before losing to Detroit in week 4. Chicago’s offense has been rolling this season averaging 32 points per game. There have been times where they have seemed to be able to move the ball at will, even putting up 32 points in their only loss. The Bears defense has struggled a bit at times this year (giving up 28 points per game) but they still pressure the quarterback and create turnovers as well as any team in the league.

The Saints are 4-0 on the young season and while they have looked invincible in the dome at home, they did struggle in their lone away game, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by just two points in a low scoring game (16-14). The Saints are on a short week after their Monday Night Football dismantling of the previously undefeated Miami Dolphins.

Coming in on short rest will put their schedule and planning back a day and give them less time to prepare for a very good Bears team. The loss of the day of practice will especially hurt the Saints defense that has come together nicely but this is the first season under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Ryan runs complex formations and blitz packages, and losing a day to prepare could hurt a Saints team that has not really been tested this season, especially not on the road.
Heading into Solider field after a short team will hurt this Saints team, and Chicago should bounce back after a poor performance last week against the Lions. One positive to take away from the loss against Detroit is the heart that Chicago played with at the end of the game. Chicago was down 37-16 entering the fourth quarter of last week’s game, and while they did lose the game they were able to get it within one score, finally losing 40-32.
NFL odds had first opened this game as a pick-em, but now it looks as if the bookies are skewed as to who should be favored. Some sportsbooks are listing the Bears at -1, while others have the Saints at -1.5.
The Saints have lost 3 in a row at Solider field, Drew Brees hasn't been at his best in Chicago either, completing just 55.7 percent of his passes (Career 66.9%) with seven TDs and six interceptions while going 0-4 there in his career. Cutler on the other hand has played well against the Saints, he has a 1-1 record but has thrown 3 td’s against just one interception.
For this reason we are giving te Bears the nod with our NFL picks in this Week 5 matchup.
