We breakdown the betting odds and share our NFL Picks for the Week 5 battle between the Cincinnati Bengals and the New England Patriots.

Cincinnati could very easily be 3-1 this season if not for a late touchdown that gave them a season opening loss in Chicago. The Bengals showed a lot of heart bouncing back and beating the Steelers in Week 2 and coming from behind to beat the high powered Packers in Week 3. In the Packers game not only did they come from behind to win the game, but they also stopped Aaron Rodgers and the powerful Packers offense from coming back on them.

Stopping an offense on a single drive does not seem like all that big of a deal but when that offense has Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback and it is in the final minutes of a game, it is a big deal. I believe last weeks loss to Cleveland was a rarity. Cincinnati is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 home games and they are a much different team at home over the past couple years. Andy Dalton plays better, the offense seems to run smoother and the defense seems to play with that extra intensity it needs to get late turnovers (see Packers game).

For another take on this game check out our NFL Picks: Patriots vs. Bengals.

The Patriots are coming off a big win in Atlanta on Sunday night, but in that game they lost Vince Wilfork for the season, and that loss is going to hurt this Patriots team. With Wilfork in the middle of the defensive line the Patriots are 9th in the NFL in yards per carried allowed, with Wilfork out of the lineup they are dead last averaging almost a full yard per attempt more. Undrafted rookie Joe Vellano and Chris Jones (a sixth round pick of Houston) who was cut by the Texans and Buccaneers will most likely split time in his place.

The Patriots are 4-0 this season, but they are a deceiving 4-0. They have not played particularly well, winning 3 of their 4 games by an average of just 4 points. After a 4th quarter comeback and a last minute win in Buffalo they played a close game against the Jets. This will be their second road game in a row and with young players and injuries at key positions this will be a much tougher task.

The NFL odds have seen some movement, as most online sportsbooks now list this game as a pick-em. However, bettors would be smart to shop around, as some sportsbooks are offering lines as high as -2.

The Cincinnati offense certainly struggled last week in Cleveland, but that same offense has scored 54 points in their two home games, so they are without a doubt capable of putting points on the board. For that reason, we are willing to back them with our Week 5 NFL picks.
