Week 3 Predictions Could Deliver More Surprises
Two weeks into the NFL season and the surprises have been aplenty. None more so than those teams that are left standing 0-2 SU, a list of franchises that includes teams that were expected to be contenders for the playoffs according to preseason NFL betting markets: Eagles, Ravens, Lions and – the biggest surprise of all – …drum roll…Seahawks. Indeed, the Seahawks have now slipped from top Super Bowl 50 faves to third overall faves, behind Green Bay Packers (+400) and New England Patriots (+500). As it is, the Seahawks are now matched at +650 to win outright.
Other teams that are amongst the 0-2 straight-ups in the league are the Texans, Bears, Giants and the Saints. The 0-1 SU Colts, also tipped amongst preseason favourites, will look to avoid joining this dubious group in Monday Night Football when they take on the 1-0 SU New York Jets. Will they come through as the massive odds-on-favourites or will the Jets spring the surprise? We’ll find out soon enough today.
For the time being, we look ahead to week 3 NFL betting’s slate; specifically at the opening NFL odds as we serve up our observations and the MUST-SEE games.
Week 3 NFL Odds Preview
The New England Patriots (2-0 SU) opened as the whopping 14-point home chalk in week 3 NFL betting over the Jaguars, a rather understandable stance given how their offense lit up the scoreboard across two weeks. What’s rather surprising is the fact that the Seahawks (0-2 SU) also opened as the 14-point home favourites over the Bears. Consider the amount of points the defense leaked already through two weeks, it smacks disingenuous a bit. Then again, the Bears haven’t exactly struck a convincing chord, have they?
Despite boasting a 0-2 SU record and being booed off the field in Sunday Night Football’s loss to the Cowboys at home, the Eagles opened as the 2.5-point road favourites over the NYJ. One wonders if that market stance is going to hold over the course of the week. If the Jest mastermind the upset in MNF, it would be surprising if they do.
Other 0-2 SU sides to open as home chalks against the spread include the Giants, Ravens and Texans. Are the odds makers being overly optimistic in those matchups? Only the 0-2 Saints have been snubbed in their divisional clash with the 2-0 SU Panthers, largely down to the fact that they’re on the road in week 3 NFL betting.
MUST-SEE Games to Spot On Your NFL Picks
Week 3 NFL betting serves up several intriguing clashes, but none more so than the divisional clash between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. Had Tony Romo not injured his clavicle in week 2, the clash between the 2-0 SU Cowboys and the 2-0 SU Falcons would have earned the top billing honour. As it is, we’re reverting to the divisional showdown instead.
Going into this clash, the AFC North rivals boast contrasting fortunes: Bengals look to advance their lead atop the table while the Ravens hope to mount a comeback. It goes without saying that if the Ravens (-2.5 home faves) lose, they’ll not only continue to prop up the division but they’ll also make any postseason claims that much more difficult to realise. However, with their offense stuttering in two weeks can NFL bettors make the Ravens their NFL pick with any confidence?
Another divisional showdown that captures our imagination is the clash between the Buffalo Bills (1-1) and Miami Dolphins (1-1). While the Dolphins are undefeated and will be the home team in week 3 NFL betting, the Bills have been playing the better football in our opinion. They upset the Colts in week 1 NFL betting and gave the Patriots a run for their money in week 2. We feel an upset is potentially on the cards here – in other words the Bills at +2.5 are an early NFL pick worth considering.
