Detroit at Green Bay Game Overview

Pointspread: Detroit -2
Total Line: 43.5

The Lions will be looking to snap a three-game skid on Monday night following a promising 3-1 start both straight-up and against the spread. Their latest loss came last Sunday night in a 20-15 setback against Pittsburgh as three-point home underdogs. Detroit is now 3-4 both SU and ATS in its first seven games and the total had gone OVER in four of its first six games before staying UNDER 44.5 points against the Steelers. It is 2-1 ATS in its first three road games this year.

Matthew Stafford continues to give his team the best chance to win and the best chance to lose in his ninth season at quarterback. Two weeks ago against the Saints, he threw for 312 yards and three scores in a losing effort while putting the ball up 52 times. He was also picked off three times. Last Sunday night, he completed 27 of his 45 passing attempts for 423 yards for zero touchdowns (and zero picks) as his team had to settle for five field goals in another losing cause.

Green Bay is coming off its bye week at 4-3 SU with a 3-4 record ATS. It is also coming off back-to-back losses (SU and ATS) to Minnesota on the road and to New Orleans at home with the total staying UNDER in both of those contests after scoring a combined 27 points. The total had gone OVER in the Packers’ previous four outings while scoring an average of 30 points per game. They are 1-2 ATS this season when closing as underdogs and 2-2 ATS in four previous home games.

The Packers’ season took a major turn for the worst with Aaron Rodgers’ shoulder injury in the loss to Minnesota. It is a whole new ball game with Brett Hundley under center as his replacement. In his first start against the Saints, the third-year signal caller out of UCLA completed 12-of-25 passing attempts for 87 yards. Green Bay did add 181 yards on the ground, but this is still a unit that is ranked 18th in the league in average rushing yards per game with 101.6. The bigger concern is the 17 points on the scoreboard.

Detroit at Green Bay Game Betting Trends

-The Lions are a profitable 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday night games, but they fall to 5-11 ATS over the course of their last 16 games against the NFC North. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six division games.

-The Packers have gone 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a bye week and they have covered the spread in five of their last seven NFC North matchups. Coming off a bye week, the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games.

-The favorite on the closing betting line has gone 16-5 ATS in the last 21 games between these two bitter rivals and the total has gone OVER in four of the last five meetings.

Detroit at Green Bay NFL Picks

This is a huge game for both teams when it comes to staying in the playoff race in the highly competitive NFC. Neither one is playing with its A-game right now and that should remain the case on Monday night. I do like the idea of Green Bay getting points at home on SBR Odds NFL betting board, but my top NFL pick in this matchup is the UNDER on the 43.5-point total line.
