The Saints look to make it into the win column for the first time this season, but will they be able to best the Falcons as 3 point chalk? While not the biggest debate taking place tonight, we argue both sides of the Falcons-Saints spread and help you choose the winning side.

Atlanta Falcons Riding Momentum
Matt Ryan and the Falcons descend on the Superdome in New Orleans for a highly anticipated Monday Night Football showdown. Ryan and the Falcons offense raided the Coliseum in Oakland last weekend, snapping up 396 yards al while Ryan went 26 of 34 for 3 TDs. That account tops up Atlanta’s offensive production through two weeks of the 2016 season admirably. They are second in the league in total offense with 902 yards – 355 yards passing and 95.5 yards rushing on average per game, all while scoring an average of 29 points.

Saints in Disarray
The New Orleans Saints are 0-2 US on the season following an opening loss to the Raiders at home and a road loss to the NY Giants. Both accounts though were polar opposites. In the first game, the Saints were mired in a shootout with the Raiders and the Saints defense collapsed in the fourth quarter allowing the Raiders to come from behind and take the win. In week 2, the Saints defense shored up and put in a masterclass performance but still the Saints lost 16-13. Drew Brees and his O-line had a horrendous day at MetLife.

Falcons vs. Saints Betting Verdict and Picks
In spite of the Saints poor showing through the first couple of week of the NFL, they enter this MNF betting extravaganza remarkably as the firm home chalk. Books opened with the Saints hanging on -3 and that line is holding for the time being.

It's the standard field goal advantage awarded to a side at home, but, arguably, home field advantage isn’t what it used to be in New Orleans which makes laying that many points a bit of a risky NFL pick. The Saints are 4-5 SU at home since 2015 with a 0.6 losing margin on average and a -1.8 differential versus the spread. We'd wager this line will drop come game day, significantly, so depending on which side of the coin your betting it's a decision to pounce now (Falcons backers) or wait for a shorter line.

There’s an argument to be had about the fact that the Saints were only a few plays from going into week 3 unbeaten. They failed to stop the two-point conversion that served up the Raiders win and they allowed a blocked field goal to turn into a score against them at MetLife, which effectively sealed the W for the Giants. However, we can’t overlook the affect losing has on a team ethos and confidence. Small consolation it is to say the Saints were close to a 2-0 SU record when they are actually 0-2 SU and in danger of missing the playoffs yet again. Not to mention, Sean Payton is on the hot seat, making this a pressure-filled must-win game for the Saints in more ways than one.

Perhaps, the Saints do finally win a game, although we’re not going to bet the farm on it. For our money, we can’t overlook the Falcons entirely in this matchup as the +3 road underdogs. After all, they are coming off a winning account over the Raiders – a side that beat the Saints, mind you. They have the momentum and opportunity to take the lead in the NFC South if they go up 2-1 this week. Take the points with the Falcons on your NFL picks.
