Will the Seattle Seahawks crack the 10.5 projected season win total? We delve into their NFL schedule and serve up game-by-game NFL picks with a view towards answering that question.

Seattle Seahawks 2016 NFL schedule Game-by-Game Predictions at a Glance
The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a solid 10-6 SU season but one that didn’t get off to the best of starts by their lofty  standards and saw them cede the NFC West title to Arizona Cardinals. In any event, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks rounded out into form down the stretch and played some of their best football en route to the playoffs.

A brand new season. Slate wiped clean, the Seattle Seahawks return to the forefront of NFC West division betting, entering the foray as the top favourites to win the title – a bet trading at -140 NFL odds with most sportsbooks, well ahead of defending champions Arizona Cardinals who are priced at +160 NFL odds to win a second straight title. As well, the Seahawks are hanging on a 10.5 projected season win total while the Cardinals are hanging on a 9.5 projected season win total, underlining just how these expectations stack up.

There are those NFL bettors that would argue it’s a bit of snub to the Cardinals, riding on Seattle’s coattails so in NFL betting markets. By that same token, with Marshawn Lynch hanging up his cleats will the Seahawks pack as big of a punch? Lynch was injured for the better part of 2015 and Seattle did struggle from time to time, especially in their division where they finished a modest 3-3 SU.

Whichever way you slice the NFC West division, it’s obvious to any NFL bettors that the two standouts are the Seahawks and Cardinals. Both strike a legitimate pose on the NFL betting board and, in all likelihood, the title will be decided between them. For the purpose of this space, we focus on the Seahawks and their 10.5 season win total, which is underscored by the OVER at -140 NFL odds. The UNDER is trading at +110 NFL odds.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks were tipped to crack a projected season win total of 11. They fell short of the mark, which would have resulted in a push bet, by one win, despite having the fourth toughest NFL schedule with a 0.559 winning percentage based on the previous season. Going into 2016, the Seahawks receive the fifth toughest NFL schedule with a 0.543 winning percentage based on the 2015 season.

Taking a closer look at this seemingly daunting NFL schedule is to be suitably unimpressed. The first three games of the season feature three teams that finished under .500 last season. A week 5 bye is a bit early, but they come up against only one playoff team in the first nine weeks of the season so that’s a plus.

The toughest part of their schedule features from week 10 to week 17, beginning with a date with the New England Patriots and then rounding out behind back-to-back NFC heavyweights, Carolina and Green Bay, before closing on a triplet of divisional rivalries. This section isn’t straightforward. However, if the Seahawks get off to a bright start in 2016 the momentum alone could carry them through the final stretch on a positive note. Let’s not forget, the Seahawks have a tendency to rise to the occasion when the stakes are high and finish strong.

So with that preamble we turn to the game-by-game predictions and NFL picks with a view towards predicting the Seahawks’ final season win total tally in 2016.

Seattle Seahawks 2016 Game-by-Game Predictions At A Glance

INSERT TABLE

Week 1 vs.  Miami, Sunday, September 11
This is a tough assignment for Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins, no ifs or buts about it. An opening game at CenturyLink Field is brutal. Another new Miami coach under the cosh in a flash.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 1-0

Week 2 vs. Los Angeles (away), Sunday, September 18
New city. New stadium. New quarterback. Los Angeles Rams have been a thorn in Pete Carroll’s side in recent memory, including a stunning overtime victory last season to kick off 2015 and a late win at CenturyLink to complete the series sweep. However, this time the Seahawks have the advantage given all the changes the Rams are in the midst of, not to mention the fact that a three-game winning streak over the Seahawks is improbable.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 2-0

Week 3 vs. San Francisco, Sunday, September 25
Chip Kelly and the San Francisco 49ers head to Seattle Seahawks in week 3 NFL betting. By and large, the NFL betting community is writing off the Niners in 2016 – in part to their fall from grace last season and in part to Chip Kelly’s spectacular failure in Philly last season. In the broad spectrum of the season, this does seem a bit churlish. It’s a new term. New beginning for both the Niners and Kelly, making it unfair to simply dismiss them out of hand. Yet, it’s week 3 of the season. Arguably, too early for Kelly and the Niners to gel. Plus, the Seahawks have had the 49ers’ number in recent memory.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 3-0

Week 4 vs. NY Jets (away), Sunday, October 2
The New York Jets are coming off a standout season with Ted Bowles at the helm. Very nearly made it into the playoffs they did. There are uncertainties hanging over the organisation – namely, the status of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Assuming they get those details ironed out before the season kicks off they could prove a stiff challenge for the Seahawks. An early game and cross country travel puts the Seahawks at a disadvantage. We’re chalking this is a road loss for the Seahawks but with a caveat: if they do win it wouldn’t be shocking at all.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 3-1

Week 5 BYE

Week 6 vs. Atlanta, Sunday, October 16
Dann Quinn returns to his stomping grounds in week 6 of the NFL betting season. A well-rested Seahawks side is a tough assignment even if Quinn has all the inside info on a team that he spent a two years of his career coaching. It’s the first time he stares down Pete Carroll across the field. It won’t be a memorable or happy reunion we reckon.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 4-1

Week 7 vs. Arizona (away), Sunday, October 23
The Arizona Cardinals host the Seattle Seahawks in week 7 NFL betting, marking the first primetime slot for Russell Wilson and Company. It’s also the first playoff team they face in the first nine weeks of the season. The pair split the series last season with each side winning on the road. The Seahawks have the upper hand having won the most recent clash and quite convincingly no less, decimating Carson Palmer and the formidable Arizona defense 36-6 in week 17 at the University of Phoenix Stadium. The Seahawks will look to carry the momentum on Sunday Night Football betting.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 5-1

Week 8 vs. New Orleans (away), Sunday, October 30
Drew Brees and the Saints can light up and give Russell Wilson and Company a run for his money. However, the Seahawks defense will do its part to give Drew Brees as many headaches as it can while the Saints defense is likely to fall short of expectations.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 6-1

Week 9 vs. Buffalo, Monday, November 7
The Buffalo Bills are treated to a Monday Night clash with the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Rex Ryan is in for a tough day, you think.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 7-1

Week 10 vs. New England (away), Sunday, November 13
It’s a short week and a cross-country trek to Foxboro. By week 10, we expect Tom Brady to be in fine form after missing the first four games of the season. Not to mention, the Patriots will be coming off a bye week and benefitting from the time to prepare for the Seahawks. At this point in time, it’s advantage Patriots all the way.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 7-2

Week 11 vs. Philadelphia, Sunday, November 20
The Eagles are in the post Chip Kelly era, a rebuilding process that has many of the opinion they’ll take a step back this season. A trip to Seattle later in the season is definitely better than one earlier on but given the wholesale changes the franchise underwent in the offseason a winning account at the expense of a well-run side is a stretch.

NFL Picks Win
Record 8-2

Week 12 vs. Tampa Bay (away), Sunday, November 27
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the more promising sides in the NFL with a legitimate quarterback in Jameis Winston. However, they are a few years away from becoming bona fide contenders. Seattle Seahawks should run roughshod over the Bucs.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 9-2

Week 13 vs. Carolina, Sunday, December 4
The Seahawks have probably circled this day on their calendar since the NFL schedule was released. Twice they lost to the Panthers in 2015 – a 27-23 loss at CenturyLink in week 6 of the NFL betting season and a 31-24 loss to the Panthers in the divisional round of the playoffs. Seattle Seahawks will be out for revenge and they just might get it. Seattle should win but the Panthers could win.

NFL Picks Win
Record 10-2

Week 14 vs. Green Bay (away), Sunday, December 11
The Seahawks suffered a 27-17 loss at Lambeau last season in week 2, a result that saw them boasting a 0-2 mark to start the season. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are tough to beat at home assuming they are fully fit. It’s the middle of December where temperatures are frigid and unwelcoming and the Seahawks are coming off what is sure to be a brutal clash with the Panthers.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 10-3

Week 15 vs. Los Angeles, Thursday, December 15
The Seahawks were stunned by the Rams in week 1 last season and, then, shockingly, in week 16 when they lost 23-17 at CenturyLink. It’s not going to happen for a second straight year.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 11-3

Week 16 vs. Arizona, Saturday, December 24
The Cardinals beat the Seahawks at home last year but the Seahawks returned the favour in week 16 NFL betting, handing Carson Palmer and Bruce Arians a humiliating defeat. If both sides live up to expectations this game could have crucial consequences in the division and how these teams stack up for the playoffs. The stakes could be high, which means anything can happen. The Seahawks should win but the Cardinals could win.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 11-4

Week 17 vs. San Francisco (away) Sunday, January 1
The Seahawks close the season with the San Francisco 49ers visiting at Levi Stadium. This rivalry isn’t what it used to be – at least not from this vantage point. It remains to be seen how well the Niners account in 2016. Until proven otherwise, this is a game most NFL bettors will shade in favour of the Seahawks on their NFL picks.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 12-4

NFL Projected Season Win total Predictions for the Seahawks: It should come as no surprise that we’ve got the Seahawks finishing on a very optimistic note in 2016. A 12-4 SU mark that cracks the 10.5 projected season win total and, potentially, sees the Seahawks reclaim the NFC West title. The Seahawks have been one of the most consistent teams in the NFL and barring some major injury to key players they should continue that standard of excellence in the NFC. As such, we’re backing the OVER 10.5 at -160 NFL odds for our NFL picks.
