Eli Manning and Andrew Luck go head-to-head in Week 2 of the preseason, and with both starters eager to showcase their talents, should sports bettors be looking to jump on the 'over' with their NFL picks?

The Giants came away with a late victory last week against the Steelers, and now they have a rematch against the Colts for their third preseason game. The NFL Odds have the Giants as -1 ½ favorites, with a total of 41 points.

Third time’s the charm
This will be the Giants’ third preseason game after playing in the Hall of Fame Game nearly two weeks ago. They have come away with the victory both times, and they could be going for this one as well. Most teams use their third preseason game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, and it could mean that the quarterbacks play a lot in this game.

Tom Coughlin’s career record during this week of the preseason is 6-4, however his Week 3 SU record is only 2-8. While this doesn’t tell us a lot, it does seem like Coughlin’s teams  play better during the second week.

Second time in two years
Not only is this the third preseason game for the Giants, but it’s also the same time they’ve played the Colts in as many preseasons. Last season the game was in New York, however Andrew Luck and the Colts outplayed the Giants’ starters in a 20-12 victory.

Luck was fantastic in his limited time against the Giants last season. He threw for 107 yards on 9/13 passing, and added two touchdowns before being taken out of the game. Eli Manning was quite the opposite of Luck in that game, but so far this preseason, the Giants’ new offense has looked solid while in the game. Manning was only 8/17 in that game last preseason. He threw for 87 yards, not touchdowns, and a pick during his quarter and a half of play.

Rashard Jennings and Andre Williams have looked really good for the Giants running the ball this preseason, and against the Colts, they should have some success. Even though Indianapolis has improved their run defense over the offseason by adding a few defensive linemen, the Giants are still going to try and run the ball.

However don’t be surprised if Manning gets some work in this game. He might play in a majority of the first half, and he will likely play better than he did last preseason against the Colts. If the running game is set up well for him, I expect Manning and the Giants to play well enough in this game to win.

The Sharp Pick
Even though home field advantage doesn’t mean a lot in the preseason, I am weary on betting against the Colts. Instead, even though I don’t do it often, the total for this game seems like a good play. Both teams’ starters should get some time into the second quarter, and that could give the scoring a nice start. Both of these teams are trying to throw the ball more this season, and it starts in the preseason. Luck and Manning should both get around 15 pass attempts during this game, and at 41 points, I think we could see a higher scoring game.
