The NFC West showdown between the Rams and Cardinals is one of the most-anticipated clashes in week 4 betting. In this space, we analyse the odds and serve up NFL picks to bet on.

Los Angeles Rams Soaring?

After the singular worst account in week 1– losing to the Niners 27-0 – the Rams, all of a sudden, turn things around. Lo and behold but they are tied with the Seahawks for first-place in the NFC West!

The Rams stunned NFL bettors across the nation when they held the Seahawks to a 9-3 win in week 2 and then, quite shockingly, erupted in Tampa Bay to take the 37-32 win in week 3 NFL betting. It was raining TDs, hallelujah! The first two games of the season the Rams couldn’t find the end zone without a GPS.

Will the real Arizona Cardinals please stand up?

Who are these 1-2 SU imposters because these aren’t the talked up Cardinals of the preseason that were supposed to pick up from where they left off last season. The Cards were one of the best regular season teams of 2015, second only to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC (the very side they bowed out to in the playoffs). They also clinched the NFC West title with a 13-3 SU record.

In some respects, one could say the Cards are picking up from where they left off but not the way most were hoping they would. The 49-15 loss to the Panthers in the 2015 NFC Conference decider was one of the worst accounts by Carson Palmer and the Cards until last week’s debacle in Buffalo. Then Palmer went 23-of-40 for 235 yards and 1 TD but also throwing four interceptions (finishing with 10.3 in total QBR and 43.2 Passer Rating). In the 33-18 defeat to Buffalo in week 3 that sent seismic shockwaves across sports betting platforms, Palmer was arguably worse. He went for 26-of-50 for 287 yards and NO touchdowns all while throwing four interceptions (finishing with a 13.4 in total QBR and a 36.0 Passer Rating).

Los Angeles Rams vs Arizona Cardinals

Dunno what’s going on but Cards fans should be a bit worried right about now. A divisional rivalry that matters in the context of the playoffs is a must-win game particularly at home but if Palmer continues to be a liability with the ball – throwing it to opponents – it’s going to be a long day at University of Phoenix stadium.

Sportsbooks are taking a much brighter view of this game installing the Cards as the massive home chalk on the NFL odds board – anywhere from -7.5 to -9. Consider the topsy-turvy accounts of each team last week and the contrasting outcomes the NFL line does seem to be overcooked. There are many NFL bettors that will in principle disagree with laying that many points with the Cards. Hesitation that is in part tainted by the poor showing in Buffalo. As well, presupposes the Rams are the real deal.

Really? Are the Rams the real deal? Don’t forget the Niners held them pointless in week 1 (the Niners have since leaked 80-plus points in two games to better opponents). Granted the Rams held the Seahawks to a 9-3 win in week 2, but Russell Wilson was hobbling around on one foot (high ankle sprain) and that severely hindered the Seahawks offense. In week 3, the Rams defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-32, the very same side the Cards ripped to shreds in week 2 with a 40-7 score at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Until proven otherwise the Rams could very well be smoke and mirrors. Sure the Cards are going through a rough patch but there’s a lot to like about Bruce Arians side. It may seem like a lot of points to lay, but we’d rather risk it with the home team than chance it with a road team we’re not so sure has an identity yet. Keep in mind, for your NFL week 4 picks, the Rams are on the road for the second straight week.
