Chicago’s season is sinking faster than the Titanic. Will the Lions proffer a lifeline in week 4 NFL betting, a desperately needed win? We preview this matchup and serve up the best value picks for Lions- Bears showdown.

Has Chicago’s season sunk already?
A 0-3 SU record in a tough NFC North division is the worst case scenario for John Fox and the Bears in the context of the postseason: no team starting 0-3 SU has made the playoffs in the current NFL format.

Just because it’s never been done, doesn’t mean it can’t ever happen. However, the NFL odds are stacked against Chicago significantly in various markets and an injured Jay Cutler might be one too many challenges for the Bears to overcome. (Chicago is priced at +4000 NFL odds to win the NFC North and hanging on hallucinatory +25000 NFL odds to win Super Bowl LI.) Not least of all, they go into week 4 NFL betting as the home underdogs anywhere from + 2.5 to + 3.5 points.

It’s been one disaster after another since their opening defeat to Houston and a Monday Night football embarrassment to the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field that saw Jay Cutler being taken to task by fellow teammates on the side lines.

Brian Hoyer started in week 3 but, even, the able veteran was unable to fully rise to the occasion, a Sunday Night Football betting affair in Dallas that went the way of the Cowboys 31-17. He was slightly better than Jay Cutler, which is something to hang one’s hat on. It might make a difference if he starts in week 4.

In any event, the pressure on the Bears couldn’t be greater than it is and the season is only three weeks young. It’s a must-win game over the Lions at Soldier Field. Lose and heads are sure to roll in Chicago.

Detroit (1-2 SU) opened on the NFL odds board laying -2 points but one-sided public betting already sees the line bet up to -3 with several sportsbooks including industry bonus leaders Bet Online, Just Bet and Bookmaker to name a few. Granted with just one win in three games, the Lions aren’t exactly that much better than the Bears. But the public seems to think they are or is making a similar such distinction.

Perhaps, it’s in part down to the upset over the Colts in week 1 on the road that served up the lone W. Although last week the Lions, in a 34-27 loss to the Packers, did impress many NFL bettors. Trailing 31-3 at the start of the second half they scored 24 points to close the gap and give the hosts a run for their money. Marvin Jones has been a stellar addition to Detroit and he currently sits pretty atop the charts for receiving yards – 408 yards and 2 TDS.

Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears
Only one win separates these two teams but it’s obvious the public sees more separation,  such as Matthew Stafford is a cut above either Jay Cutler or Brian Hoyer, and his offensive weapons that include Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Theo Riddick (amongst others) are more convincing than the punch-less Bears. As well, the Lions just seem to have Chicago’s number of late.  All that and more does make laying the points with the visitors a reasonable NFL week 4 pick.
