After recording an even and rather disappointing 8-8 record last season, the under-achieving Cowboys hope to kick off the 2014-15 season with a bang by earning a win over a good San Francisco team. What are the NFL betting lines looking like for this battle?

The NFL betting lines are back up to an even four points at a good chunk of the top sportsbooks, with San Francisco still penciled in as the favorite.

The 49ers aren't getting a lot of love heading into the new season, but we don't see why they can't make another legitimate run in the playoffs. Colin Kaepernick should only get better, and this is a team that has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.

Dallas should fare better this season, but we want to wait a little bit before putting our faith in them. For that reason, our NFL Pick is San Francisco to cover as road favorites in Week 1.
Free NFL Pick: 49ers -4

This Sunday afternoon, Dallas will play host to San Francisco in what should be one of the most entertaining matchups of Week 1.

The Cowboys appear relatively healthy going into the new season, and expectations are high once again. The same can be said for the 49ers, who were one of the most profitable teams to back with your ATS picks last year.

Due to their past excellence, San Francisco is favored by 4.5 points on the NFL odds despite being on the road in this spot. The line has moved from 3.5, with early bettors jumping on the 49ers and driving the line up. There's been even more movement on the game's total, as it opened at 48 and is now as high as 51 at some sites.

Dallas in 2013-14 Regular Season: 8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS, +0.4 margin of victory

San Francisco in 2013-14 Regular Season: 12-4 SU, 11-5 ATS, +8.4 margin of victory

Dallas hasn't made any significant personnel changes at the skill positions. Tony Romo is still around, DeMarco Murray is undisputed number one back, and Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams and Jason Witten are the three top targets in the passing game. There are a lot of questions about that Cowboys defense, however.

The 49ers have Colin Kaepernick in at quarterback, with Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde taking most of the running back duties. Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis are still involved, with Steve Johnson and Brandon Lloyd also hoping to get their touches. This team is a lot more sound defensively than the Cowboys, even with Aldon Smith suspended, as Justin Smith, Patrick Williams and a number of other guys do their jobs extremely well.

It may be best to adopt a wait-and-see approach when it comes to siding with Dallas early on. We need to get a better feel for how the defense holds up before truly trusting them.

That being said, we'll have our final picks for this matchup later in the week.
