The Urban Meyer experience is over after only 13 games. We investigate some possible candidates and make our picks to be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Will the Jaguars reunite with former first-round pick Byron Leftwich, or will they go with a more experienced candidate in Jim Caldwell?

There is no doubt in my mind that the next hire for the Jaguars will be centered around QB Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars need to bring in a head coach who can help establish a culture in Jacksonville and develop their first overall pick from the 2021 draft.

We look at the odds to be the next head coach of the Jaguars and make our NFL futures picks (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook).

Picks for the Jacksonville Jaguars' Next Head Coach

Byron Leftwich (+400)

The former Jaguars QB is the betting favorite to be the team's next head coach. Not every futures market is about betting long shots and fading the favorite. Sometimes the favorite is the correct play and holds the most value in the market based on the circumstances.

Leftwich is the mentor that Lawrence needs and working with Tom Brady as offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the last two seasons only boosts his resume. Leftwich also comes across as a coach who would be willing to rebuild the culture and take the Jaguars' job. A lot of more experienced coaches probably aren’t interested in this position. Additionally, I’m sure the Jaguars hold a special spot in Leftwich’s heart.

Honestly, I was kind of surprised to see his odds at +400 when they were posted. I thought Leftwich would be a much shorter favorite given his history with the team and his current success with the Buccaneers. Even though he is the favorite, I think this is a solid value for a candidate who will most likely be the Jaguars' first call.

Jim Caldwell (+1400)

There is a chance the Jaguars aren’t interested in a first-time head coach after Meyer. Owner Shad Khan may put an emphasis on hiring a coach with a track record.

Caldwell would be my pick in this scenario. He is well respected around the league, can build a culture in Jacksonville, and develop Lawrence.

The +1400 odds on Caldwell are generous in this market. If they are looking for someone with experience, I give him the edge.

Pederson is another name on the odds board with head coaching experience; however, I’d rather invest in Caldwell at +1400 than Pederson at +600. The regression of QB Carson Wentz under Pederson with the Philadelphia Eagles could end up hurting his chances of landing a job with the Jaguars.

Caldwell should have shorter odds closer to Moore and Bieniemy.
