The Texans are playing very good football and are on dumb pass away from being 3-1. Houston is 4th in the NFL in offense (410 yards per game) and 1st in the NFL in total defense (254 yards per game allowed). The aforementioned pass that Richard Sherman stole away from Owen Daniels in the waning minutes of Seattle’s comeback against the Texans and returned it for a touchdown to tie the game, is the only reason the Texans are 2-2 and not 3-1.

The 49ers have been locked in a Super Bowl hangover and are also 2-2, they have not played like the dominant team of 2012. San Francisco’s defense is allowing 24 points per game and has key injuries at key positions. This game has all the makings of a low scoring defensive battle with both teams seeing struggles from their starting quarterbacks. That makes getting a touchdown all the more appealing. Since 2005 San Francisco is just 2-7 straight up against AFC South opponents which also makes a money line play appealing as well. This will be the second week in a row in which San Francisco will be without All Pro LB’s Patrick Willis and Aldon Smith and while they were able to get through a game against the Rams and hold them to 18 yards on the ground, the Texans rushing attack is far better.

On Monday, the day after the Texans 23-20 Over Time loss to the Seahawks, All Pro running back Arian Foster called a players only meeting. In that meeting it was 9 year veteran Antonio Smith that spoke the most. After the meeting Head Coach Gary Kubiak said of Smith “Antonio is a strong, strong presence, when he speaks, guys listen. He cares so much”. On a positive note, Houston did have Seattle (many people’s pick to reach the Super Bowl) down 20-6 after three quarters. Now that obviously does not count unless you get the win, but there something to be said about dominating one the best teams in the NFL for three quarters.
NFL odds had first opened the 49ers as -6.5 favorites, but that line has since fallen to -6 at most NFL betting sites. However, depending on the online sportsbooks of your choice, lines can be found anywhere between -5 and -7.
While they were different teams then (at least the 49ers were) but the last time these two teams played, the Texans did escape with the 3 point victory. The reason that Houston was able to win last time they met was because of Matt Schaub who was 20/30 for 264 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. We are expecting a similar result this weekend, and for that reason we are adding the Texans +6 to our NFL picks.
