Thursday, October 13, 2016Broncos vs. Chargers

All of a sudden, this game is a pivotal clash for the Denver Broncos. Slipping to their first defeat Denver ties Oakland in the AFC West on a 4-1 SU mark. A lot of the defeat had to do with Paxton Lynch’s inexperience as a starter and it showed in what was a laborious offensive account by the O-line altogether. With Siemian under centre the Broncos averaged 27.7 points scored per game (a contribution that includes defensive scores as well). If Siemian does get the green light, the Broncos have a good chance of lighting up the Bay Area not only behind his hot hand but also behind their defense that will be looking to bounce back from the subpar performance in week 5. The Chargers defense is porous which should allow Siemian the freedom to move the ball. Denver’s defense could prove overwhelming for Philip Rivers, good though he is at the integral position. It’s also worth considering the Chargers boast a 4-1-0 Over record with four games cracking the 45.5-point total.

Sunday, October 16, 2016Niners vs. Bills

Colin Kaepernick is confirmed the starter for week 6 against the Bills, and, by all accounts, he’s a good fit for Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense. Do we infer points will be put on the board? Niners’ fans certainly hope so because their last few accounts with Blaine Gabbert left much to be desired. Speaking of putting up points, boy do the Bills put them up all of a sudden, or what. Talk about the positive impact firing an offensive coach has in reviving a team. Three of the last four games have seen the Bills put up 30-plus points including last week’s 30-19 win in Los Angeles. Both the Niners and Bills are 3-2-0 in over-under betting. This could really go either way but seeing how Tyrod Taylor is firing at all cylinders these days the Bills alone could account for the bulk of the total trading at the sports betting shops.

Eagles vs. Redskins

The Eagles lost a heartbreaker in Detroit but will look to bounce back in week 6 NFL betting against the Washington Redskins. Kirk Cousins and the Redskins are riding a three-game winning streak which includes twice cashing on the OVER (47 and 48 against the Giants and Browns, respectively). The Eagles present a different obstacle, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles remain one of the least porous sides in the NFL with 12.8 points allowed against. The second best passing defense against a solid Washington passing offense could prove the battleground that keeps this game under pre-set totals on the NFL odds board.

Browns vs. Titans

The Browns and Titans strike a rather unconvincing pose on the NFL odds board for various reasons. Few would put any stock in either side but when pit against one another so it comes down to which side has the advantage. Very little separates this pair by the stats – adequate rushing offenses in each camp combine with mediocre passing offenses. If there’s one slight advantage, it’s Tennessee’s defense that ranks slightly better than Cleveland’s defense. Whether that becomes the factor remains to be seen if Josh McCown does get the start because the journeyman quarterback could shift the balance in favour of the visitors quite significantly. The lone game Josh played he lifted the Browns to a massive lead over the Ravens before an injury to his shoulder hampered him and the Browns couldn’t stave off the comeback. Aside from last week’s 30-17 win the Titans have struggled to crack 20 points scored per game. Indeed, the Titans average about 18 points per game while the Browns average 17 points per game. On the strength of those numbers, we’re leaning towards the UNDER bet on our week 6 NFL picks.

Ravens vs. Giants

If there’s one thing these two outfits have in common is struggles on offense. The Ravens are averaging 18.8 points per game while the Giants are averaging 17.8 points per game. In the case of the latter, it’s somewhat surprising given the offensive weapons Eli Manning has at his disposal. For whatever reason these offenses are totally out of sync and it’ll be a minor miracle if they get the ball rolling at MetLife on Sunday. It’s worth mentioning the Giants have a 1-4-0 over record while the Ravens have a 2-3-0 over record.

Jaguars vs. Bears

The Jacksonville Jaguars have oscillated from game-to-game on contrasting accounts. In spite of their struggle for consistency, the Jaguars take a 1-3 SU record into week 6 that is complimented by a 1-3 over record. Through four games they average 21 points, but that number is slightly skewed by the 30-27 win over the Colts in week 4 which marked the first time they scored more than 25 points in a game. The Bears offense is steadily finding its rhythm with Brian Hoyer but consistency is an issue as well. Not to mention putting up points which appears to be laborious at times. On the flipside, both defenses are guilty of leaking 25-plus points per game on average.

Rams vs. Lions

The Rams and Lions are a bit of an anomaly from game to game, NFL bettors don’t know what they’re going to get. If the offense is MIA the defense is left with all the work to do. Or vice versa. As such, the Rams are 2-3-0 in O/U betting while the Lions are 3-2-0 in O/U betting. In the two low-scoring affairs involving the Lions, Stafford struggled against the decent passing defenses of the Titans and Bears (11th and 14th, respectively). The 16th best passing defense of the Rams could potentially enjoy similar such success against the Lions. Against the Eagles (second best passing defense in the league), the Lions did burst out of the gates and race to a significant double-digit lead, but there’s an argument to be had about the Eagles coming off the bye and being slightly sluggish. Case-and-point, in the second-half they held the Lions to a mere field goal, which was unfortunately conceded in the final quarter and cost the Eagles the win.

Steelers vs. Dolphins

The Dolphins offense is absolutely non-existent. Anaemic is a word that springs to mind and Ryan Tannehill is struggling something awful to learn the playbook. (Or is he just not good enough? You decide.) In any event, if the Dolphins don’t perk up they certainly don’t stand a chance in giving Big Ben and the Steelers a run for their money. The 17.6 points scored per game has Miami ranked at the bottom of the league in scoring offense. Pittsburgh Steelers are the sixth highest scoring offense with 27 points per game but if Big Ben’s hot hand continues into week 6 (4.5 TDs per game in the last fortnight) that is sure to improve. On one hand, the inclination is to be the OVER given the Stealers’ heady stats. On the other hand, while they can certainly account for at least 30 points, their defense is allowing an average of 18 points scored per game, which includes 13.5 points in the last two games alone.

Bengals vs. Patriots

The Patriots bounced back nicely in a 33-13 win over the Browns. By all accounts, the score could have been even greater as the Browns were totally and utterly ineffective in stopping Brady. The Bengals, meanwhile, are struggling something huge on both sides of the ball. Offense mainly is firing blanks, which is a worry for Andy Dalton’s fans. This isn’t a good matchup as a result for Dalton if he’s suffering a crisis of confidence. Cincy’s offense is averaging just 18.4 points per game and the defense is allowing 22 points per game. On the flipside, the Patriots defense is allowing just 14.8 points per game and scoring 22 points on average (although the latter numbers don’t reflect Brady’s true contribution to the offense that saw him put up 33 points last week). Nevertheless, if we look at Cincinnati’s scores against similar defenses (according to points allowed those were Steelers, Broncos and Cowboys), Cincy managed an average of 15.6 points scored. There’s a strong case to be had for an UNDER bet on your week 6 NFL picks. That being said, it’s Brady’s first home game and the atmosphere should be electric. Could be a showdown to remember.

Chiefs vs. Raiders

The Chiefs and Raiders lock horns in Oakland this weekend for a highly anticipated AFC West showdown that could have significant implications for the division. The Raiders are 4-1 SU and riding high behind a three-game winning streak. The Chiefs are 2-2 SU and coming off a disappointing outing with the Steelers before a week 5 bye. Raiders are 4-1-0 in O/U betting largely down to their porous defense that puts a lot of pressure on Derek Carr and the offense then to respond in kind. Kansas City Chiefs offense hasn’t been consistent but against the Raiders defense they just might find their mojo.

Falcons vs. Seahawks

The Falcons offense is riding high behind the hot hand of Matt Ryan, Can he keep up this pace for the entire season, many are wondering. As it is, they are the highest scoring offense with 35 points per game but their defense is still leaking 28 points on average. Seahawks may be a shadow of what they were over the last couple of seasons, but they are notorious slow starters. They’re coming off a much-needed bye week. This should be an exciting matchup that could light up the scoreboard.

Cowboys vs. Packers

The Cowboys and Packers collide in week 6 NFL betting for a highly-anticipated showdown at Lambeau. The Packers are 2-2 in O/U betting while the Cowboys are 2-3 in O/U betting. Odds makers roll out a rather high total for this game suggesting a shootout might be on the cards. Reality is Aaron Rodgers isn’t quite littering the stats sheets as he did in 2014 when he emerged as the regular season MVP. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense is exciting to watch but they’re defense is underrated and could give Rodgers some headaches.

Colts vs. Texans

The Indianapolis Colts are 4-1-0 in O/U betting this season thanks to their gun-slinging quarterback Andrew Luck. Still, even with all his talent wins are hard to come by for the Colts. The Texans offense has looked iffy at times, never more so than on the road when they were held pointless by the Patriots, and very nearly so again last week. At home, the Texans are 1-2 in O/U betting with the two games that cashed on the UNDER not even cracking 40-points.

Monday, October 17, 2016Jets vs. Cardinals

The Jets and Cardinals come into Monday Night Football on a wave of doubt and various concerns. The Jets can’t seem to get going on the offensive side of the ball while their defense is struggling as well. The Cardinals offense leaves a lot to be desired too, and, in turn, their defense simply is getting taxed on the field. How these two sides stack up in what is going to be a pivotal week for each organisation is tough to predict. Fitzpatrick is playing for his job while the Cardinals are playing for their playoff hopes. Neither side will want to lose this game, which might lead to a more cautious approach with emphasis on ball protection.
