We're back with another six-pack of Week 1 preseason NFL picks against the spread. It's another glorious opportunity to fade Ken Whisenhunt and the Tennessee Titans.
August may be the slowest month on the North American professional sports calendar, but not if you're making preseason NFL picks. We've got another six exhibition games coming up this Friday night, which means six more opportunities to grab some of that added profit margin that comes with the territory. And look who happens to be playing in our first matchup.
Tennessee at Atlanta (7:00 p.m. ET, NFLN)
Ladies and gentlemen, Exhibit A: Ken Whisenhunt. The head coach of the Titans is one of the best reasons to bet on preseason NFL games, going 9-19-1 ATS in his career. On the other sideline is rookie head coach Dan Quinn, who would presumably like to make a good first impression at the Georgia Dome, even if it doesn't count in the standings.
Free NFL Pick: Take the Falcons –2.5 (–103) at Pinnacle
Carolina at Buffalo (7:00 p.m. ET)
When we first looked at this matchup here at the home office, we decided the OVER was a tastier football pick on the NFL odds board than betting against the spread. But we also identified a key trend: New Bills coach Rex Ryan is 0-6 ATS in Week 1 preseason games. Will that hold up in this particular situation, with three QBs competing for the starting gig? Our consensus reports show 94 percent of early bettors disagreeing.

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville (7:30 p.m. ET)
This is our first crack at an oldie but goodie: Betting on the team that played in the Hall of Fame Game. The Steelers already have one exhibition game under their belts, so they should be much better prepared for Friday night than the Jaguars. Teams in Pittsburgh's situation are 8-4 ATS since 2008 inclusive.
Free NFL Pick: Take the Steelers PK at GTBets
New York Giants at Cincinnati (7:30 p.m. ET)
Here's another solid Week 1 preseason trend that already has us betting on Big Blue: Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is 7-3-1 ATS in these games, while Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is 5-7 ATS. The Giants have a lot to prove this season after missing the playoffs three years in a row.
Free NFL Pick: Take the Giants +3 at The Greek
St. Louis at Oakland (10:00 p.m. ET)
Let's welcome Jack Del Rio back to the head coaching ranks. The man behind “Keep Chopping Wood” is 20-14-2 ATS lifetime in the preseason, this is his first year with the Raiders, and they're playing at home. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is a neutral 37-36 ATS in exhibition play.
Free NFL Pick: Take the Raiders +1 at Intertops
Denver at Seattle (10:00 p.m. ET, NFLN)
Bookending our love for Whisenhunt, we've got Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who's an amazing 25-11-1 ATS in preseason games. But he'll have to deal with new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, who went 19-11-2 ATS at the helm of the Houston Texans. Make it a suitably small bet on the home side.
