San Diego Chargers vs. Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta hosts San Diego on Sunday in a non-conference game at the Georgia Dome. The current (10/20) NFL betting odds at Bookmaker indicates that Atlanta is a 6.5-point home favorite, and the posted total is 53.5. Bookmaker is widely considered to be one of the top online betting sites and is presently offering generous cash bonuses.

Chargers Road Woes and Falcons Home Futility

San Diego has gone a dismal 1-11 in their last 12 away games, and that includes losing 6 straight. On a positive note, despite their recent failures on the road, the Chargers are 8-0 ATS in its last 8 as a road underdog of 2.0 or more.

Atlanta has gone a disastrous 1-9 ATS during its previous 10 games as a home favorite, and that includes a pathetic 0-5 SU&ATS in their last 5. It must be noted, although Atlanta is 4-2 thus far, Sunday will be the first time they’re a favorite since its season opener against Tampa Bay.

Turnovers

San Diego has committed 12 turnovers over their last 4 games and was at a -5 margin in that statistical category. The Chargers are 0-3 on the road this season. During their previous 2 road defeats at Indianapolis and Oakland, San Diego turned the ball over 7 times.

Conversely, Atlanta has committed only 5 turnovers in 6 games. That type of superb ball security has been a major contributor to their #1 offensive ranking in total yards (441.5), and points per game (33.2).

NFL Super ATS Angle

San Diego knocked off defending world champion Denver 21-13 in their previous game and did so as a 3.5-point home underdog. Atlanta is coming off a 26-24 loss at Seattle last Sunday. The combination of these results, in addition to the point spread on this upcoming game, leads to an extremely successful betting angles and serves as a strong foundation for one of my NFL week 7 predictions.

Any non-division favorite of 3.5 to 8.5, coming off a road loss, and has won 11 or more of its last 32 games, versus an opponent coming off a home underdog straight up win in which they covered by 6.5 points or more, resulted in those home favorites going 29-2 ATS (93.5%) since 1991.
