Eagles vs. Raiders

Nick Foles and the Eagles’ offense head into Oakland this weekend and after opening as -1 favorites, the Raiders have quickly moved to being -2 ½ favorites in the NFL Odds. All of that movement came early after Foles was announced as the starter, and although I don’t expect the Eagles’ offense to collapse, I don’t expect much against one of the most underrated defenses in the NFL.

The Raiders got by the Steelers this past week thanks in large part to their ground game. However this week against the Raiders, it’s the passing game that has to be good for the Raiders to win. Philadelphia is giving up over 300 yards passing per game, and even though Terrelle Pryor has been shaky throwing the ball recently, this is a game where he can get back on track. He got beat up through the air last week against one of the better secondaries in the NFL, however his rushing and the Raiders’ defense were enough to overcome Pittsburgh.

Even though they hardly ever play one another, the Eagles are only 1-5 ATS in their history against the Raiders, and Philadelphia is a total of 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games overall. Both of these teams have top five rushing offenses, but the Raiders are at home, they have the better overall defense, and with Foles and/or Matt Barkley under center in the Coliseum, many young quarterbacks have met their demise. I see the Raiders running the ball well, setting up play action, and winning this game.

NFL Pick: Raiders -2 ½

Titans vs. Rams

The helpless Rams play host to the Titans this week, and what started as a winnable game for the Rams has come under question now with Kellen Clemens as the starter. The NFL Odds for this game favor the road Titans at -1 (-125) and even up to -3. Even though there is the chalk, I absolutely love the Titans here at -1, even on the road.

Jake Locker and the Titans don’t get a lot of attention being in a small market, and now that Locker is back from his injury, the Titans look infinitely better on offense. His first game back was against the Niners last week, and even though Tennessee lost, Locker played solidly, throwing for 326 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The Rams’ defense will be much more forgiving, as will their offense, and the key will be Tennessee’s very underrated defense. Despite last week, the Titans are still one of the ten best passing defenses in the NFL. Alterran Verner is having a Pro Bowl caliber season with 4 interceptions, and hard-hitting safety Bernard Pollard is striking fear into anyone who comes over the middle. Even with Zac Stacy looking good to go for this matchup, I see Tennessee playing above average defense Sunday and getting the cover at  -1.

NFL Pick: Titans -1 @ Matchbook
