Russell Wilson is set to make his first-ever appearance at Mercedes Benz Superdome. In his five-year career, he’s 2-0 SU and ATS over the Saints. Will that trend continue in week 8 of the 2016 season?

 Point Spread Value

Seattle Seahawks are coming off a headscratcher, a 6-6 tie with the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium that left much to be desired. On the bright side, they covered as the +2 to +2.5 road underdogs (or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook). It’s difficult to make out the Seahawks this season. Russell Wilson is clearly banged up and not up to his lofty 2015 self. The retirement of Marshawn Lynch doesn’t help matters either as the Seahawks lack that extra punch. Yet, the Seahawks enter NFL betting markets as the road favorites this week. Bet365, Bookmaker and BetCris are a few top-rated books that offer up the Seahawks laying -2.5, while Pinnacle, The Greek and Bodog are testing the waters with Seahawks laying -3 points. Don’t know about you, but that does seem steep. Too many points to be laying for this 2016 Seahawks side before us.

Don’t confuse it with past versions. Make no mistake, this isn’t the same team. Sure, they can perk up down the stretch as they’ve done in seasons past, but we’re not willing to bet on it just yet. The only significant spread the Seahawks have covered this season was a -10.5 spread against the Niners, their personal punching bag. Hashtag shocker! After that, they did manage to cover as the -1 road faves but it was over the hapless Jets at MetLife. It’s hardly much to hang your hat on.

New Orleans Saints may be 2-4 SU on the season but they are 3-2-1 ATS with a -3.2 losing margin on average and a -1.4 differential versus the spread. They held the Chiefs close last week in a 27-21 loss to push as the closing +6 home underdogs, but those bettors that got in early NFL betting markets and took the +7 points at opening doors with the Saints cashed nicely. In any event, the last three games have seen the Saints keep games closer than the NFL betting odds would suggest. This could be yet another. As such, we’re taking a chance on the Saints with our week 8 ATS picks.

The Survivor

Sentimental NFL bettors will love the notion of Drew Brees leading the Saints to a signature win over the Seattle Seahawks. It’s not entirely improbable. Anything can happen on a given Sunday. Heck, the Rams upset the Seahawks 9-3 earlier this season. Problem is such a feat requires a solid defense. For all the offensive misfiring, the Seahawks remain a tough nut to crack. Did you see Sunday Night Football? Cardinals had plenty of opportunities to win, some served on a bloody silver platter.

If the Saints are to accomplish the feat, Drew Brees would need to be totally on fire and play lights out. This is when a crystal ball would be super handy. Anybody got one? Call me. Otherwise, best to play it safe on our week 8 NFL picks.

Game Total

Odds makers must be taking a page from the Saints because why else would they roll out a 48-point total for this game? The Seahawks offense barely sputtered into life last week. It was yet another game in which the Seahawks scored no touchdowns. Defense rules with the Seahawks and if it does rule this game it’s more likely than not it will be a low-scoring affair. Drew Brees can run up the total like nobody else but he can struggle against really good defensive-minded opponents.
