Can the San Diego Chargers keep the momentum going when they take on Denver Broncos? We breakdown the AFC West showdown and serve up choice NFL picks for SU, ATS and Total bets.

San Diego Chargers vs Denver Broncos
 Point Spread Value

The San Diego Chargers may only be 3-4 SU and propping up the AFC West table, but all and sundry must be able to agree they’re the best 3-4 SU team right now. Riding a two-game winning streak on the heels of wins over Denver (ironically) and Atlanta, they’re well on their way to turning things around. Importantly, they are 5-2-0 ATS on the season with a 3.0 winning margin on average and +4.8 differential versus the spread.

Most of their games this season were close. In fact, Philip Rivers and Company could have won many of those near misses, if not all. But for late game collapses that cost them the precious W and, even, bad luck. Happens.

Repeating against the Denver Broncos in week 8 at Mile High won’t be straightforward. When the Chargers beat the Broncos, Siemian was fresh off an injury and Gary Kubiak was in the hospital. Things look to be much different with both Siemian and Kubiak back on form.

The Broncos are also 5-2-0 ATS on the season with a much better 7.1 winning margin on average and +4.6 differential versus the spread. By those stats, it’s conceivable the Broncos could cover the hefty spread. However, Philip Rivers is a game changer. An elite quarterback and he can give the Broncos a run for their money.

This is a game Kubiak wants back. He wasn’t on the side lines when the Broncos faced the Chargers in a short week on Thursday Night Football. It must have been a tough pill to swallow. In any event, since his return, the Broncos bounce back with a key win over the Houston Texans and Brock Osweiler. It was quite the statement too, holding the Texans at bay in a 27-9 victory at Mile High. The Chargers are riding a two-game winning streak and have the confidence of beating the Broncos in week 6 to draw inspiration from. One can’t dismiss the threat they pose. Still, it’s the Broncos at home. Not wise to bet against them.

Game Total

These two teams couldn’t be more different. The Chargers boast a 5-2-0 OVER record thanks to the offensive prowess of Philip Rivers and, to be fair, the defensive shortcomings of the Chargers et al. Broncos are 3-4-0 in OVER/UNDER betting largely down to a solid defense that takes the pressure off the offense. Broncos don’t need to be uber explosive on that side of the ball so long as the defense holds strong. There is the double threat of having one of the best scoring defenses too. In week 6, this matchup closed on a 44-point total. Not surprisingly, the same total is on offer with most sports betting outlets. The inclination is to go for the UNDER again, but, admittedly, Trevor Siemian wasn’t 100% that day and misfiring. Seeing how well he played last Monday in the win over the Texans, there’s a feeling this time this matchup will see the total cracked.
