A highly anticipated NFC East clash features between the Eagles and Cowboys on Sunday Primetime Football. Can Dak Prescott keep the hot streak going? We analyse this matchup and serve up choice NFL picks.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys

Point Spread Value

Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott are burgeoning stars of the game, no ifs or buts about it. The best bit: they’re contained within the same division, promising the start of a great rivalry in the game.

As it is, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have the distinct edge over the Eagles. Form is undeniable with the Cowboys. The rookie quarterback has defied the NFL odds to lift the Cowboys to a 5-1 SU and ATS record, which includes an 8.7 winning margin and +9.1 differential against the spread. The crazy bit: they could easily have been a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS going into week 8 had it not been for the narrow week 1 loss to the Giants that featured poor decision making by Terence Williams, who didn’t go out of bounds before the clock ran out. Oh la.

The Eagles are equally impressive in their own right. Rookie Carson Wentz has proven to be an able replacement for Sam Bradford and lifts the Eagles to a 4-2 SU and ATS record, punctuated recently by a win over the then undefeated Minnesota Vikings. Indeed, the Eagles defied the NFL odds to serve up the 21-10 win over the Vikings as the +3 home underdogs. It’s enough to consider the merit of the Eagles to keep this pivotal clash with the Cowboys close, if not win it outright.

The Survivor

The Cowboys are an impressive 5-1 SU riding a five-game winning streak into week 8. It’s not as if the Cowboys have had it easy either. They’ve beaten some good teams along the way, including the Packers at Lambeau just before a week 7 bye. It’s made the case for Tony Romo’s return as the starter almost untenable. Put this way, if the Cowboys win this one it’ll be impossible to justify Romo’s return. That’s incentive for the young quarterback. So long as the occasion doesn’t get bigger than he is, it’s difficult to bet against the Cowboys right now. That said, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Eagles defied the NFL odds to win outright. Consider they have the momentum from last week’s big win over the Vikings.

For our money, we’re shading the Cowboys to win this game but don’t go betting the farm on it. If this game lives up to the hype, it’s sure to be a rollicking affair that could go either way.

Game Total

Very little separates these two teams in terms of points scored and conceded. The Eagles are averaging 26 points scored and 14.6 points conceded. The Cowboys are averaging 26.5 points scored and conceding 17.83 points per game. Which side of the ball will dominate on Sunday Night football is anybody’s guess. The defenses could turn up in a big way and make it a low-scoring affair. In the interest of a great Sunday Night football showdown – unlike the godawful 6-6 tie in week 7 between the Seahawks and Cardinals – let’s hope it’s a scoring fest. In that regard, the 43 point total seems a touch too low.
