Lions are 3-0 SU and ATS in the last three weeks. After the Cowboys, they are the second hottest team at NFL exchanges. Will the hot streak keep going? We breakdown this matchup with NFL picks.

When in vogue…you go with it. So is the case with the vogue NFL pick, Detroit Lions. Sharps have been all over the Lions since week 1 and they’re reaping the rewards particularly in the last few weeks. Overall, the Lions are 4-3-0 ATS but they’re riding three straight covers into week 8; beating Philly 24-23 as the +3.5 home dogs; beating LA Rams as the -2.5 home faves; and, more recently, beating the Redskins as the +1 home underdogs. There’s something to be had about this run of form taking place at Ford Field. Had the Texans been any good on Monday that argument might have held water. As it were, Brock Osweiler stunk up Sports Authority Stadium at Mile High something bad. The 27-9 defeat showed up the Denver cast-off as a bit of an upstart. Matthew Stafford is a much better quarterback and he’s coming into his own with each passing week. The Lions should keep this close, if not win outright (more about straight up betting to follow).

The Survivor

Houston Texans are 4-3 SU on the season and top of the AFC South, a division that is largely disappointing. The only reason the Texans are at the top is because the rest of the field is inconsistent and mildly talented. That and the Texans also remain undefeated at home, a happenstance that is sure to make Houston a popular bet in money line betting this week. Is it wise to take such things at face value though? Put this way, things aren’t exactly cosy for Brock Osweiler after yet another road debacle. This time with a national audience in attendance on Monday night watching the abysmal 27-9 defeat to the Broncos. So much for pilfering Denver’s locker room. You’d think Brock is under the cosh right now to prove he’s worth the price they paid. That could be either a distraction or incentive to the quarterback. Short of a crystal ball, it’s impossible to say which one it will be.  Aside from the Chiefs in week 2, the Texans haven’t faced a good enough (or winning) team at home. Lions are 4-3 SU on the season thanks to a three-game winning streak with victories over Philly, Los Angeles and Washington (all winning teams on the season thus far).

Game Total

Matthew Stafford and the Lions are the second hottest team after the Dallas Cowboys at NFL exchanges, something that has NFL pundits putting up Matthew Stafford as a contender for the 2016 MVP award. Premature? Maybe.  Offensively, a lot does seem to be clicking for the Lions and that should send them into this clash with a wave of confidence. The Texan defense is a tough nut to crack. As badly as Brock Osweiler played (three fumbles) in MNF, the Texans lost only 27-9. It could have been much worse had the defense not kept it close. Still, there’s just something about the enthusiasm and exuberance of this team. Stafford seems to have matured under centre, become a leader and mentor as well a responsible playmaker. If they can take this solid run of form to NRG Stadium and actually win, those that are already serving up the veteran quarterback for the MVP award won’t look so brash. Lions are averaging 24.2 points scored and conceded per game through seven weeks. In the last three, they are averaging 25 points scored and 22.67 conceded.
