Running the ball and stopping the run still go a long way toward winning games and covering the NFL odds, so with that in mind here's a trio of free NFL picks for Sunday.

Jets on the Rebound
New York is coming off getting its butt kicked out at Oakland last week 34-20, and that game wasn't even that close. The Jets lost starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a thumb injury early on, fell down by two scores in the second quarter and never recovered. Two weeks ago New York lost a tough game up at New England 30-23. So the Jets need a victory Sunday to retain possession of one of the AFC wild-card spot.

Jacksonville, meanwhile, beat Buffalo last time out 34-31 in London, then had last week off.

The Jets rank seventh in the league this season in rushing, first in run defense and sixth in time of possession. The Jags rank 25th against the run and 27th in time of possession. So far this NFL season teams that outrush their opponents are covering the spread 68 percent of the time, and teams that win the TOP battle are covering 65 percent of the time.

Also, Fitzpatrick, who's done a good job for his new team this season, is expected to play today.

New York is also 5-2 against the NFL odds this season, and we like them for the win and cover today.

Free NFL Pick: Jets -7.5 at Youwager

Panthers Add to Packers' Troubles?
Carolina is 7-0, following a 29-26 overtime victory over Indianapolis Monday night. Green Bay is 6-1, following a 29-10 loss at Denver Sunday night

The Packers have actually been outplayed, and outgained, their last three times out. One month ago Green Bay got outrushed by St. Louis by 105 yards, but used four picks, one for a score, to beat the Rams 24-10. Just after that the Packers got outgained by San Diego by 178 yards and needed a late stop deep in their own red zone to avoid overtime in a 27-20 victory. And last week Green Bay looked positively inept in the loss to the Broncos.

The Panthers, meanwhile, have outgained five of seven opponents this season, and outrushed six of seven foes. Carolina is exactly the type of team that gives a finesse outfit like the Packers fits.

Also, NFL home dogs are 15-23 SU, 21-16 ATS this season.

Free NFL Pick: Panthers +139 on the moneyline at 5Dimes

Falcons to Take Out Frisco
Atlanta started 5-0 this season, but has lost two of its last three games, after getting upset at home by Tampa Bay last week 23-20 in overtime. But the Falcons outgained the Bucs by 206 yards, committed four turnovers, three that basically cost them 17 points, and twice had to settle for very short field goals.

On the season Atlanta has outgained and outrushed six of eight opponents.

San Francisco, on the other hand, just lost at St. Louis 27-6, and has been outgained by seven of eight foes this season, five times by at least 145 yards. The 49ers have also been held to seven points or less four times this season, and will start a new quarterback, former Jag Blaine Gabbert, who owns a career NFL record of 5-22 as a starter, this week.

Free NFL Pick: Falcons -7 at Heritage
