We crashed and burned with my NFL Picks on Sunday for Week 3. For week 4 I am back with a play on a game that could easily be the highest scoring game of the week. Follow along as I release my NFL Pick for the Saints vs. Chargers.

400-yard club

While we only have gotten through three games of the NFL season, these two defenses are both in an exclusive club. It’s not a club that any defense wants to be a member of, but both are giving up over 400 yards of offense per game to start the season.

New Orleans has played three pretty good passing offenses through the first three weeks of the season so their numbers are a bit inflated, but the Chargers have played Jacksonville and Kansas City and still given up over 400 yards per game total and 322 passing yards per game.

Needless to say, with both of these teams giving up right at, or over 300 yards passing per game, this is going to be a shootout. It’s the highest total of the week for a reason and with the Saints desperate and the Chargers’ offense looking great with the threat of Melvin Gordon in the backfield, I see this one being a high scoring one.

The Sharp Pick

So far through three weeks, the Saints are giving up 32 points per game, while the Chargers have allowed 24.3. As mentioned above, the Chargers have played some pretty underwhelming, or under performing offenses to start the season, so while I liked their defensive upside early in the offseason, things have changed.

San Diego’s defense took another nosedive with the loss of Manti Te’o for the season too. He was the heart of the defense and with several other injuries on the list this week like Brandon Flowers, Jahleel Addae and Jatavis Brown, the Chargers could be without several defensive starters and the entire left-side of their secondary if Addae and Flowers are out.

It may seem kind of square taking the over on the highest total of the week, but with all of San Diego’s injuries and the Saints’ inability to stop anyone on defense, as long as we get some quick strikes from either quarterback, I see a 30-27 game in favor of the Chargers. Take the over and add it to your NFL Picks for Week 4 of the season.
