The Detroit Lions emerge as one of the biggest underdogs in the wild card round. Can they shake things up in the NFC? Here’s a betting preview complete with NFL picks SU, ATS, and Total.

Detroit Lions vs Seattle Seahawks Point Spread Value

Three straight losses down the stretch saw the Lions cede the NFC North title to the Green Bay Packers and, in turn, home advantage for the wild card round. The upshot of which they earn a date with the much-feared Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Ask any NFL pundit or experts alike and most would agree this is the toughest assignment in the wildcard round. As such, the Lions emerge as one of the biggest underdogs versus the spread at this first hurdle of the playoffs.

To be fair, the Seahawks haven’t been up to snuff. They’re nowhere near the team that ruled the NFC in recent history and reached the Super Bowl in back-to-back years. Don’t get it wrong, they’re still a good team with proven championship pedigree. They’re just not invincible, though.

The Lions finished the season with an 8-8-0 ATS record underscored by a -0.8 losing margin and 0.0 differential versus the spread. These narrow numbers could give Lions’ fans some sliver of hope at least where covering the spread is concerned. It’s worth pointing out the Seahawks’ ATS record too: which stands at an 8-8-0 ATS mark and just a 3.9 winning margin and -1.7 differential versus the spread. In those stats, there’s more hope for Lions’ faithful.

 The Survivor

Betting against the Seahawks on home turf takes balls, no ifs or buts about it. The Seahawks are one of the toughest to beat at home in the league, as evinced by their 7-1-0 SU record at home in this campaign. Still, the Seahawks won just three of their last six games and two of their last three home games. It’s not exactly the best sort of form to take into the playoffs.

Now, there are those that would argue: with the NFC West practically won by mid-season the Seahawks could afford to take liberties. Coast down the stretch, so to speak. Only thing is there’s a potential problem with that: it does take some of the intensity out of the game. Heck, the Niners gave the Seahawks a run for it in week 17 and played them close. The Lions are a whole lot better than the Niners are and could make some noise in Seattle. A lot of that though hinges on where Stafford is in terms of the injury to his finger. Many reckon it’ll still be an issue in the playoffs. Just as it has been these past three weeks, which coincides with their losing streak to finish the 2016-2017 regular season campaign. However, last week’s loss at Lambeau showed some positive signs that Stafford is getting used to his modified glove. It’s a long shot NFL pick but watch this space

Game Total

This matchup has the potential of serving up a right cracker at CenturyLink Field on Saturday night in Seattle. The Seattle offense has been finding it’s rhythm of late while the Lions offense looks to be adjusting to Stafford’s modified glove. Seahawks put up 354 points (22.125 on average) while the Lions have put up 346 points (21.625 on average) this season. Seahawks finished with a 9-7-0 OVER record while the Lions rounded out on a 6-10-0 OVER record.
