Houston Texans need a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Will the Texans come through for NFL bettors? Find out as we breakdown this clash and serve up our NFL picks.

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-12, 0-7 away)
Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 3-12 on the season behind a 21-13 win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Primetime Football betting, coming through for their backers as the 3-point home chalk as well.

The victory over the Titans snapped a two-game losing streak going into week 16 NFL betting. It also marked their third home win of the season, second since coming off a week 11 NFL bye. Since their off week, they are 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS. During this run they've scored 74-points and conceded 107 points for a 6.6-point margin of defeat, marking a decided improvement on their seasonal output that stands at 3-12 and a 10.5-point margin of defeat.

Although the Jaguars conceded 357 yards of total offense to the Titans, most of those were meaningless as the Titans failed to capitalise on most of those yards. Jaguars countered with 288 total yards of offense as Blake Bortles went 13-of-26 for 115 yards and a touchdown. The rookie quarterback also ran for 50 yards as he played with a sprained right foot.

In the Houston Texans, the Jaguars face a stiff test on the road. Particularly, they are 0-7 SU and 2-4-1 ATS on the road with a 15.3-point margin of defeat. Those aren't encouraging numbers; hence, they are fittingly matched as the long shot NFL pick on the road – trading around seven-points (or higher) against the spread from early doors.

Houston Texans (8-7, 4-3 home)
Few held much hope for the Texans after Ryan Fitzpatrick's season-ending injury in week 15 NFL betting. On the heels of Fitzpatrick's injury, the Texans' quarterback carousel was exhausted and they were forced to resort to a fourth-string quarterback, Case Keenum. That week 16 NFL betting pit them against the Baltimore Ravens, former Superbowl champions and one the strongest contenders in the AFC playoff hunt, further exacerbated this feeling of gloom that hung over the Texans. Tale told, the Texans defied the NFL odds to upset the Ravens at home all while installed as the 6.5-point home underdogs. (It's interesting to note that the Texans opened as the 3.5-point underdogs before being bet up to 6.5-points.)

Running back Arian Foster and the Texans defense really stepped up to take the pivotal win. Foster threw for a touchdown and Randy Bullock converted six field goal attempts as the Texans improved to 8-7 on the season and kept their slim playoff hopes alive. Keenum went 20-of-42 for 185 yards and no touchdowns and one interception.

Texans are still in the AFC playoff hunt, but they are on the edge of it. They need some help in week 17 NFL betting with key rivals losing. Needless to say, they can't control the outcome of those games. They can only take care of their own business in week 17 NFL betting. What they have going for them is home advantage and, arguably, a beatable opponent on the road.

NFL Betting Verdict: Texans -6.5 over Jaguars
We've been loving on the Texans for the better part of the season. The best bit, for all their trials and tribulations, they've been worth our attention on the NFL betting odds board. In week 17 NFL betting, we continue on that vein and recommend the Texans on your NFL picks. They may not make the playoffs, but they should win this game as the decided home favourites at the expense of the Jaguars. They have the motivation and the incentive to win in order to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. It also helps their cause that Jaguars are winless on the road and Blake Bortles isn't exactly 100% fit either. Take the Texans as the 6.5-point home chalk on your NFL picks.
