The quarter pole of the betting season is upon us and though it is early in the week let’s take a look at the early NFL odds and see if there are any valuable bets worthy of our Week 4 NFL picks.

Thursday October 1st
Ravens (-3) vs. Steelers
The Ravens are winless on the young season yet the NFL odds makers have them favored as road favorites against a divisional opponent. Curious to say the least but not so much when you consider Big Ben will be sidelined for at least four to six weeks with a sprained MCL. Michael Vick will assume his duties under center but even without Big Ben is that really enough to lay a field goal on an 0-3 road favorite?

NFL Pick: Grab the points.

Jets (-2) vs. Dolphins
Despite a 24-17 loss to the Eagles the Jets defense continues to be as good as advertised. Unfortunately the offense committed four turnovers and gave away the game to the visitors. The Dolphins on the other hand looked completely inept as they were blasted by the Bills 42-14 in their own playground.

NFL Pick: Lay the deuce.

Jacksonville vs. Indianapolis (-8 ½ )
The Colts almost covered last week but allowed a garbage time TD with under a minute remaining as they defeated the Titans 35-33. Those who trusted Indianapolis in their NFL picks (namely me) were shocked that Luck and the Colts continue to struggle even against middling if not subpar opponents. Call me Joe Q. Public but the Jaguars should be exactly what the doctor ordered to restore this team to health.

NFL Pick: Lay it and like it at Pinnacle.

Texans vs. Falcons (-6)
The Dirty Birds rallied in Dallas as the offense exploded and the defense came to life blanking the Cowboys in the second half en route to a 39-28 win. The Texans also had to rally to beat the lowly Bucs at home. Impressed? Me neither. Ryan Mallet doesn’t appear to be the answer in Houston while the Falcons soar.

NFL Pick: Lay it.

Panthers (-3) vs. Bucs
Carolina rallied over a Brees-less Saints team last week while the Bucs didn’t do much other than keep it relatively close against a listless Texans squad. Who do ya love?

NFL Pick: Neither.(Keep checking with for further predictions on this game)

Giants vs. Bills (-6)
Big Blue rang up 32 points at home against the Redskins while the Bills blasted the Dolphins on the road. Rex Ryan’s defense should give Eli and company fits which means the home team wins this one by a touchdown or more.

NFL Pick: Lay it.

Raiders (-2 ½) vs. Bears
Is there a way they can both lose? Actually the Raiders look like they have finally found a bona fide quarterback in Derek Carr as they snapped an 11-game road losing streak with a 27-20 victory over the Browns. Meanwhile the Bears were blanked 26-0 by the Seahawks. Raiders may not be a team to tail but the Bears are rapidly becoming the team to fade.

NFL Pick: Lay it at Bookmaker

Eagles (-3) vs. Redskins
How many times can you continue to bet the favorite without looking like the ultimate square? That is the question I have to ponder this week but I can’t help but think that the confidence boost the Eagles got last week in a 24-17 road win over the Jets won’t propel them to greater heights starting in DC.

NFL Pick: Lay it.

Browns vs. Chargers (-7 ½)
The Browns lost to the Raiders at home while the Chargers’ offensive line employed the ole’ defense and allowed anyone who wanted a piece of Phillip Rivers to have a taste in getting throttled by the Vikings. I’m not sure the Chargers are worthy of laying north of a touchdown to the Little Sisters of the Poor so I will say grab the points in your NFL picks here.

NFL Pick: Take the points at BetOnline

Vikings vs. Broncos (-6 ½)
Unlike the Broncos of old this year’s edition is getting it done on defense while Manning is slowly drifting into a game manager as opposed to a game changer. Vikings look like a team on the rise and no better place to make a statement than Mile High.

NFL Pick: Take the points.

Rams vs. Cardinals (6 ½)
The Cardinals are the darlings of the NFL with their high flying offense laying waste to the Saints, Bear and 49’ers. Well what legitimate NFL contender wouldn’t look like a world champ against those weak sisters? The Rams offense concerns me to be sure but I think reality will come to the desert this week.

NFL Pick: Take the points at William Hill

Monday October 5th
Lions vs. Seahawks (-10)
The public will love the Seahawks here as they are just about on cue to go on a prolonged winning streak after dropping their first two. But how can I make a case for the Lions when they couldn’t even muster two touchdowns at home against the Broncos defense? I can’t –

NFL Pick: Lay it.
