Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers opened as 2.5 point underdogs in this game at home but have been receiving heavy betting action moving to a pick em against Tampa Bay and I feel it is the wrong move for a variety of reasons. The 49ers have a boatload of issues right now. Chip Kelly their head coach insists on running a fast tempo offense that does not fit the mediocre skill position talent and a defense that doesn’t have the depth to be out on the field for extended stretches of games when their uptempo offense keeps going ‘3 and out’ routinely and making it worse is their captain on defense LB NaVorro Bowman is out for the season with a torn Achilles. On offense, Colin Kaepernick was woeful at QB in his first start of the season against Buffalo completing just 13-for-29 passing last week for 187 yards in a blowout loss. San Francisco has been outgained in 5 straight games: 0-5 SU, 0-5 ATS during that span. This team simply has no business being in a PK price range right now against anyone with their multitude of issues.

On the flip side, there is still sentiment in the betting markets that Tampa Bay is a flop and an overrated team. The Bucs have certainly underachieved to this point--a team that was red hot in the betting markets prior to the season with many bettors looking for improvement from this team. Instead, they’ve had a disappointing 2-3 start, however, the Bucs had a confidence inspiring win against Carolina prior to their bye week. Now they are fresh and well-rested coming off a bye as they face San Francisco and I expect QB Jameis Winston who has been erratic to this point to put together one of his best games of the season throwing the football.

San Francisco’s run defense was horrible in Buffalo last week and even though Tampa Bay is minus two RB’s with Doug Martin and Charles Sims injured, I expect their starting RB for this game Jacquizz Rodgers to have a good day on the ground as he had a 100+ yard rushing effort in the win two weeks ago against the Panthers. I think it should allow Tampa Bay’s offense to be more balanced and more effective. I still view Tampa Bay as the better team and with the situational edge on their side coming off a bye week, the Bucs are worthy of being my NFL Pick for Week 7.
