Miami Dolphins

Sometimes the big winner is a contrary pick, and for week 6 of pro ball, Joe Gavazzi has an exclusive NFL Pick that will go against the grain and cash were others fail.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-8) at Miami Dolphins 1:00 ET

This space each week is reserved for the contrary NFL selection of the week. It is very clear to this bureau that the Miami Dolphins, losers of consecutive games and standing 1-4 SU ATS, fit the bill perfectly against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are off consecutive victories and stand 4-1 SU ATS.

The Dolphins enter today on long term runs of 5-19 and 3-12 ATS. Hiring Adam Gase as HC has not been the answer. There appeared to be promise after they took Seattle to the limit in game 1, were competitive with New England in game 2, and defeated Cleveland on this field for their only victory. Yet they have been virtual no shows the last two weeks in losses to Cincinnati and Tennessee. Few will have an interest in backing them this week after they dropped those consecutive games being outscored 52-24, outgained 760-422, and outrushed 412-113. The fact they are being outrushed 36/151 to 18/72, both the worst numbers in the league, confirms they are having major problems along both lines. With a point spread record of 2-9 ATS on this field of late, they will need to rely upon the kindness of others for success this season.

Pittsburgh, however, could be such a candidate for that type of generosity. Remember the Steelers’ last road effort at Philadelphia, when they were outgained 426-251 in a 34-3 loss? That downer also came after two successful efforts against Washington and Cincinnati to start the season. After that loss to the Eagles, the Steelers bounced with a pair of resounding victories at Heinz Field against KC and the Jets by combined scores of 74-27, outgaining them 869-673, and outrushing them 210-159. But the real magic has come from the right arm of Big Ben, who has passed for just shy of 600 yards the last two weeks, and throwing 4 TDs in the win against the Jets. In those victories, Ben completed 76% of his passes with a 9/0 ratio.

In an effort to support our position on Miami, we must note that Tomlin is just 7-11 ATS as road chalk the last 4+ years, and perhaps most importantly, the Steelers find this South Beach vacation sandwiched between those back to back wins and their home date next week against none other than New England. It’s exactly the kind of situation from which upsets are born.  I invite you to put the NFL ODDS in your favor and join me in my NFL PICK on the Miami Dolphins today.
