Saskatchewan Overview

The hottest team in the CFL this season got back to its winning ways with a closer than expected 24-21 victory over Montreal this past Saturday as an 11.5-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘Under’ the 54.5-point line. The Roughriders are now 6-1 straight-up on the year and 5-2 against the spread. The total has gone ‘Over’ in four of the seven games overall and in three of four games on the road.

The winning combination so far for Saskatchewan has been an offensive attack that leads the league in scoring with an average of 33.4 points a game that perfectly complements a defense that is only giving-up an average of 21.4 points a game. Darian Durant has completed 65.5 percent of his throws for 1,549 yards and 17 of his 112 completions have been for touchdowns. It also helps when you can run the ball down team’s throats with a back like Kory Sheets He has already rushed for a league-high 919 yards in his first seven games.

Edmonton Overview

At the opposite end of the West Division is an Edmonton team that is mired in a five-game losing streak. The Eskimos hung tough this past Sunday in a 36-33 loss to Toronto as 8.5-point road underdogs but it still counts as a SU loss in the standings. After starting the season with a 39-18 loss to the Roughriders as a 2.5-point home underdog, Edmonton finds itself with just one SU victory in its first seven games. It is 2-5 ATS and the total has gone ‘Over’ in five of the seven games.

With a revolving door at quarterback that has featured four different players this season the Eskimos are ranked sixth in the CFL this season in scoring with an average of 23 points a game. Mike Reilly went the distance under center in last week’s losing effort and threw for 511 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76 percent of his passes. If he can turn in another performance like that in this contest, Edmonton would have a good shot at pulling off the upset.

Saskatchewan vs. Edmonton Free CFL Pick

Recent betting trends in this matchup do not favor Saskatchewan, but current form is weighing heavily against the home-town Eskimos. Moving the ball through the air like they did against Toronto is one thing, but doing it against the most solid defense in the league is a whole other story. The current spread appears to be a gift to me as my free CFL pick has Saskatchewan rolling to a relative easy win that more than covers the 3.5 points on the road.

CFL Pick: Bet the 'Riders on the spread at -3.5
