Montreal Overview

Montreal fell two games back in the East Division race with a 38-13 loss to Toronto last Thursday as a two-point home underdog. The total stayed ‘Under’ the 53-point line. The Alouettes are now 2-4 both straight-up and against the spread and the total has stayed ‘Under’ in three of their last five games.

Despite firing its head coach after just five games, Montreal’s offense continues to sputter. It is averaging 22.5 points a game and long-time veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo has completed just 50 percent of his passes for 1,237 yards. He has six touchdown throws on the year, but he has been picked-off five times. The Alouettes’ defense has not helped the cause after getting torched for a combined 103 points in the last three games.

Saskatchewan Overview

The Roughriders five-game winning streak to start the season both SU and ATS came to an abrupt end this past Friday with a 42-27 loss to Calgary as two-point underdogs on the road. The total easily went ‘Over’ the 56.5-point line in that game. They are now tied with the Stampeders at the top of the West Division at 5-1 SU.

What has been so impressive about this early season run has been the elevated play on both sides of the ball. Heading into this matchup, Saskatchewan has the highest scoring offense in the league with an average of 35 points a game. This complements a defense that is ranked first in the CFL in points allowed; giving-up an average of 21.5 points a game. Darian Durant has thrown for 1,299 yards and a league-high 15 touchdowns and Kory Sheets is the CFL’s leading rusher with 845 yards on 132 carries.

Montreal vs. Saskatchewan Free CFL Pick

There are strong trends supporting the ‘Over’ in this matchup, but I do not trust the Alouettes’ offense to hold up its end of the deal with enough points. Montreal is clearly in trouble this season and heading down the wrong path, making the free sports pick in this contest the Roughriders minus the 10.5 points.
