BC Overview

The Lions three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end this past Friday with a 31-17 loss to Saskatchewan as three-point favorites at home. The loss dropped them two games back in the West Division title race at 9-5 straight-up. They have covered in three of their last four games to improve to 7-7 against the spread this season. BC is just 3-4 SU and ATS on the road this year and the total has stayed ‘Under’ in three of its last four games.

Thomas DeMarco continues to start at quarterback for the injured Travis Lulay, and the wheels came off in last week’s loss with completion percentage of 52.8 and three interceptions. The Lions also had a difficult time moving the ball on the ground with just 80 rushing yards on the day. BC is averaging 28.2 points a game, and its defense is ranked third in the league in points allowed (25.0).

Calgary Overview

Calgary continues to build momentum for the postseason with a 6-1 SU record in its last seven games including a 38-11 beatdown of Winnipeg last Saturday as a prohibitive 16-point home favorite. It has gone 4-3 ATS during this seven-game run and the total has stayed ‘Under’ in five of the seven contests. The Stampeders come into this divisional showdown with the best SU record in the CFL at 11-3.

Scoring has been one of this team’s strong points this season with a league-high 31.9 points a game. Kevin Glenn has done a good job directing the passing game with 2,049 yards and 14 touchdown throws, but the Stampeders have made a living off of running the ball behind Jon Cornish. He currently leads the CFL in rushing with 1,415 yards and 10 touchdowns on 200 carries. Calgary’s defense has helped the cause by holding opponents to an average of 23.1 points a game.

BC vs. Calgary Betting Lines and Trends

In the CFL odds, Calgary has opened as a seven-point home favorite for this West Division rivalry with the total line set at 53.

The Lions are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a SU loss but just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games on the road. The total has gone ‘Over’ in four of their last five West Division games.

The Stampeders are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in October and 22-6-1 ATS in their last 29 games played on a Friday night. The total has gone ‘Over’ in eight of their last 10 division games.

Head-to-head in this showdown, Calgary is 14-6-1 ATS in the last 21 meetings and the total has gone ‘Over’ in three of the last four games. These two split their first two games this season with the home team winning both SU and ATS.

BC vs. Calgary Free CFL Pick

BC has already clinched a playoff spot, but it needs to win this game to have any shot of staying the division title race. Unfortunately, playing on the road is not this team’s strong suit especially when it is against the best team in the league. Calgary already beat the Lions 44-32 at home this season as a 3.5-point favorite and my free CFL pick has it winning and covering the spread again this Friday night.
