BC Overview

The Lions improved to 7-4 straight-up on the year with an impressive 36-14 victory over Montreal last Sunday as nine-point favorites at home. The total stayed ‘Under’ the 51.5-point closing line. They are two games in back of Calgary for the lead in the division and in solid position for a playoff spot. Most of BC’s success this season has come at home with a 1-4 record both SU and ATS in five previous road games. The total has gone ‘Over’ in four of those games.

The big question mark that is currently keeping this game off the board is the health of quarterback Travis Lulay, who hurt his shoulder in last week’s win. He is the second leading passer in the CFL this season with 2,787 yards and 19 touchdown throws. If he cannot go, look for Thomas DeMarco or the newly acquired Buck Pierce to get the call. The Lions will also have to rely heavily on a defense that is allowing an average of 25.5 points a game to keep things close.

Saskatchewan Overview

The Roughriders were running away with the West with eight SU victories in their first nine games, but a two-game losing streak has them a game behind the Stampeders in the standings at 8-3 SU. After a stunning loss to Winnipeg in Week 11 as an 8.5-point road favorite, Saskatchewan was upended by Toronto 31-29 this past Saturday as a nine-point favorite at home. It is now 6-5 ATS with the total going ‘Over’ in seven of the 11 games.

This is still the best team in the CFL on paper with an offense that leads the league in scoring (32.2 points) complementing a defense that is ranked first in points allowed (23.5). Darian Durant has thrown for 2,696 yards and a league-high 24 touchdowns while completing 62.6 percent of his throws. The Roughriders have also been able to move the ball on the ground behind Kory Sheets, who leads the league in rushing with 1,222 yards.

BC vs. Saskatchewan Betting Lines and Trends

Opening CFL odds for this West Division showdown is still OFF the board pending the playing status of Lulay. Look for the Roughriders to open as three or four point favorites with the total line set right around 50.

The Lions are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games on the road. The total has gone ‘Over’ in five of those six road games.

The Roughriders are 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall, but 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five games at home. The total has gone ‘Over’ in five of their last seven home games.

Head-to-head in this West Division matchup, Saskatchewan is 6-2 SU in the last eight meetings at home, but just 4-8 ATS in the last 12 meetings played in Saskatchewan. The total has stayed ‘Under’ in five of the last six meetings at Mosaic Stadium.

BC vs. Saskatchewan Free CFL Pick

This will have to be one of those wait-and-see games until Lulay’s playing status has been determined. Even with him in the lineup it will be a tall task for BC to pin a third-straight loss on Saskatchewan especially given its past trouble winning on the road. I see Saskatchewan getting the SU win by three or four points either way, but the actual free CFL pick would obviously still hinge on the posted line.
