The British Columbia Lions will look to keep pace in a very competitive West Division title race with a victory over the East’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers this Friday night.

Kick-off for this matchup is set for 8 p.m. ET at Investors Group Field, and the game will be broadcast in Canada on TSN.

BC Overview

BC moved into a tie for second place in the West Division at 8-4 straight-up with a huge 24-22 victory over Saskatchewan this past Sunday as a six-point underdog on the road. The Lions are now an even 6-6 against the spread this season after covering in their last two games. The total stayed UNDER the 53-point line against the Roughriders and it has now stayed UNDER in four of their last seven games.

The Lions did not have the services of quarterback Travis Lulay for Sunday’s game and he remains questionable for this matchup as well. In his place, Thomas DeMarco managed the game well with 208 yards passing and two touchdowns and slotback Shawn Gore came up big with six catches for 74 yards and one score. BC’s defense has allowed an average of 25.2 points a game this season but it did a great job at keeping the Roughriders out of the end zone when it had to the most.

Winnipeg Overview

Back-to-back losses to the second worst team in the CFL in a home-and-home series against Edmonton has the Blue Bombers entrenched at the bottom of the standings at 2-10 SU. Winnipeg is 4-8 ATS on the year, but it has failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games. The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last five games.

Not only have the Blue Bombers given up the most points in the CFL this season (368) they are also the league’s lowest scoring team with an average of 20.9 points a game. To make matters worse for this matchup, their top running back Chad Simpson remains questionable with a foot injury. Quarterback Max Hall also got nicked-up last week and is questionable for Friday night as well.

BC vs. Winnipeg Betting Lines and Trends

Opening CFL odds for this inter-division tilt has BC listed as a six-point road favorite with the total set at 49.

The Lions are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games on the road but 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games in September. The total has stayed UNDER in 16 of their last 22 road games.

The Blue Bombers are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games but 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games following a loss ATS. The total has gone OVER in five of their last six games at home.

Head-to-head in this series, BC is 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in 14 of the last 17 games. The Lions have won the last four meetings SU including a 27-20 victory earlier this season as 11-point sports betting favorites at home.

BC vs. Winnipeg Free CFL Pick

Earlier in the season I would have gone with Winnipeg as an underdog at home, but this team appears to be already phoning it in after watching it play its last two games. The Lions need to keep winning to keep their West Division title hopes alive, so I do not expect any kind of letdown after last week’s big upset. This makes the free CFL pick in this contest clearly with BC minus the six points on the road.
