Calgary Overview

Calgary finds itself tied for the lead in the West with a 5-1 record both straight-up and against the spread. It handed Saskatchewan its first defeat of the year last Friday in a 42-27 romp as a two-point home favorite. The total went well ‘Over’ the 56.5-point line. The Stampeders are 2-1 ATS this season on the road and the total has gone ‘Over’ in two of those three games.

Last week’s 42-point explosion against the stingiest defense in the league was led by quarterback Kevin Glenn but fueled by running back Jon Cornish. The league’s second-leading rusher racked-up 175 yards against the Roughriders and found the end zone four times. He has rushed for 676 yards and seven touchdowns in his first six games. Glenn was also effective throwing the ball last week; completing 21-of-28 attempts for 218 yards and another score.

BC Overview

The Lions are coming off a bye and return to action with a 4-2 SU record in their first six games and a 3-3 record ATS. They are 2-1 ATS at home this season and the total has stayed ‘Under’ in two of those games. In its last game on August 5th, BC squeezed-by Winnipeg 27-20 as an 11-point home favorite and the total stayed ‘Under’ the 50.5-point line. It was the first time this season it won the game SU but failed to cover giving the points.

Travis Lulay has done a really good job at running the Lions’ offense so far. He is the second-highest passer in the league in total yards with 1,468 and he is completing 66.1 percent of his throws. He has tossed 10 touchdown passes verses four interceptions. Another plus of a BC offense that is averaging 23.8 points a game is running back Andrew Harris. He is ranked third in the CFL in total rushing yards with 459.

Calgary vs. BC Free CFL Pick

As much as I see BC successfully avenging that first defeat to the Stampeders on the road with a SU win at home, my confidence level in this team is not that high. What I am confident about as my free CFL pick for this matchup is that both teams are going to find the end zone early and often, pushing the game ‘Over’ the 56-point line.
