Toronto Overview

Toronto was able to hold onto the top spot in the East Division with a huge 31-29 upset on the road over Saskatchewan last Saturday as a nine-point underdog. The total in that game went ‘Over’ the 55-point line. The Argonauts are now 7-4 straight-up on the year and two games ahead of Hamilton in the division title race. They have gone 6-5 against the spread this season including an impressive 4-1 record both SU and ATS on the road. The total has gone ‘Over’ in seven of their 11 games.

Ricky Ray was having a sensational season for Toronto but an injury paved the way for Zach Collaros to take over as the team’s starting quarterback. After a shaky start, he has found his form the last two weeks with 561 yards passing and three touchdown throws in back-to-back victories on the road. The Argonauts are the highest scoring team in the East with an average of 29.2 points a game.

Calgary Overview

The Stampeders are all alone in first place in the West Division at 9-2 SU after knocking-off Hamilton 26-22 last week as 5.5-point favorites at home. It was their fourth win in-a-row SU and they are 2-2 ATS during this recent run. Overall, Calgary is 7-4 ATS and the total has gone ‘Over’ in six of its 11 games. It is 3-2 ATS at home this season with the total going ‘Over’ in four of those contests.

This team has been the complete package lately with excellent play in every phase of the game. The Stampeders are averaging 31.4 points a game with Bo Levi Mitchell throwing the ball and Jon Cornish running it. Their defense is ranked second in the CFL in points allowed; giving-up an average of 24.4 points a game. This average has dropped to 20.5 points during its current four-game winning streak.

Toronto vs. Calgary Betting Lines and Trends

Looking at early CFL betting lines for this week’s matchups, Calgary opened as a 7.5-point home favorite with the total line set at 54.5.

The Argonauts are 7-1 SU in their last eight games on the road and 6-2 SU in their last eight games overall. The total has gone ‘Over’ in 12 of their last 17 games.

The Stampeders are 8-1 SU in their last nine games and a perfect 5-0 SU in their last five games at home. The total has gone ‘Over’ in 13 of their last 18 games.

Head-to-head in this series, Calgary is just 1-6 both SU and ATS in the last seven meetings, but it holds a 5-2 SU edge when playing the Argonauts at home. The total has stayed ‘Under’ in the last five meetings in Calgary. These two met earlier this season with the Stampeders rolling to a 35-14 victory as four-point underdogs on the road. The total stayed ‘Under’ the 57-point line

Toronto vs. Calgary Free CFL Pick

This should be a great matchup between two of the top teams in the league. My first instinct was to go with the ‘Over’ in this contest despite the past trends favoring a low-scoring game. While that still may be a solid play, the free CFL pick for this matchup is Toronto covering with the 7.5 points on the road in a game that goes down to the wire.
