On the heels of Super Bowl LIII, oddsmakers rolled out a fresh smattering of NFL Futures for the 2020 season and Super Bowl LIV. It's early, but  the appetite for NFL never wanes and while the NFL odds are sure to fluctuate across sportsbooks it’s never too soon to make early bets.

Super Bowl LIV Odds

It should come as no surprise that the early leaders on the NFL odds board include most of this past season’s playoff teams. Namely, the defending champions New England Patriots and runners-up Los Angeles Rams are in the mix along with Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints. But here’s where it gets interesting, wait for it … drumroll ... the Rams and Chiefs at +700 slightly edge the Patriots at +750 to win outright at Bet365 and several other top rated online sportsbooks.

A bit of a headscratcher if you will. How are the unproven Rams and Chiefs at the top of the pile? Granted the pair had stellar 2018-2019 seasons, which culminated in a standout playoff run. For Los Angeles a runner-up finish. However, can they repeat that performance is the question?

The pressure of expectation after a winning and promising season is something neither Jared Goff nor Patrick Mahomes have experienced. We are sure to get the measure of these budding talents in 2020. Look at past seasons and you’ll see just how tough it is to repeat back-to-back playoff runs in the NFL

That said, more to the point, the perils of doubting Tom Brady and the lofty New England Patriots has been proven time and time again. No need to wax lyrical about the perennial contenders is there. They just know how to win.

In any event, it’s a nominal difference at the moment and, most likely, influenced by early bettors hot on the heels of Rams’ Super Bowl run, Mahomes season-ending MVP performance and all. Best bet on the Rams and Chiefs is to be had at Pinnacle where they are trading at +1100 and +827 respectively. The return on your bet at those odds will be much healthier should either prove to be Super Bowl LIV champions.

After this trio you’ll find the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, ranging anywhere between +750 and +2000, respectively, depending on your choice sportsbook.

Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens are some of the main realistic contenders based on the NFL odds currently trading. BetOnline offers the Colts at +1400, the Vikings and Packers at +1800, the Cowboys at +2000, and the Ravens and Seahawks at +3300.

One of the favorite teams to bet on this season are the Cleveland Browns, as evinced by their rather low +1600 NFL odds with BetOnline. It’s been a long time since the Browns were considered contenders, but, clearly, they are held as such after a promising season. Or is this just the result of optimism?

Let’s face it, it’s optimic betting that has the Browns so short on the NFL odds board. The Browns haven’t proven anything yet. They did well last year. Building blocks are in place. But to put together a winning season and a playoff run is another matter entirely.

Another team that is shrouded with optimism is Chicago. The Bears had a good season as well, but, then again, their division was a bit of a mess with the Packers falling way short of the mark and the Vikings bottling it down the stretch. OF course, they capitalised and there is no shame in that. It remains to be seen whether the Bears are the real deal at +1400 with BetOnline though.

Some of the long shots in the mix are the Denver Broncos at +10000 with BetOnline, Arizona Cardinals at +20000 with 5Dimes, Detroit Lions at +10000 with Heritage, Miami Dolphins at +30000 at Heritage and Oakland Raiders at +15000 with 5Dimes.

A lot will change when free agency gets well underway and the NFL draft gets going, so much so there will be a few shake ups in the market. But as it stands your top NFL picks are likely to be the Patriots, Chiefs, Rams or the Saints according to the NFL odds.

For many avid NFL bettors betting on the Super Bowl involves placing a realistic bet and crazy, what-the-hey longshot punt. The latter of which is the fun bit. Chances of a longshot punt coming through are very low, but it doesn’t deter bettors from making one. And in that regard there are many choices for your NFL picks – the longest shot of which are the Miami Dolphins.
