Oakland was in the thick of the AFC West title race until it dropped three of its last five games. Last Sunday night’s heartbreaking 20-17 loss to Dallas at home in a game that ended as a push pretty much put an end to a return trip to the playoffs. The Raiders have been tough to bet on -- 4-8-2 against the spread, including 2-4-1 ATS as underdogs. The total has stayed under in nine of Oakland's 14 games.

The Raiders are averaging 20.1 points per game, ranking 22nd in the NFL, and they have failed to reach that average in three of their last five games. You might want to put most of the blame on QB Derek Carr, but the offense is still averaging a respectable 233.1 passing yards a game. Marshawn Lynch leads the team in rushing with 695 yards, but the Raiders' 93.7 rushing yards per game ranks 25th. Much of the blame for Oakland’s losing record should probably be pinned on a defense that is 21st in total yards allowed (349.3) and 19th in points allowed (23.1).

The Eagles have clinched a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs, but they still need to win on Monday night to earn home-field advantage as the top seed in the conference. They have been one of the best betting teams this season at 10-4 ATS, which includes a 5-1 record ATS at home. The total has gone over in their last two games with a total of 77 points scored and 64 points allowed.

Monday night’s matchup is tailor-made for Philadelphia when it comes to meeting and probably exceeding its league-high 31.3-point scoring average. The Eagles have put up at least 31 points in seven of their last eight games, and it did not skip a beat last week with Nick Foles under center in place of the injured Carson Wentz. Philadelphia will go as far as Foles can take this team, and so far so good. He had 239 yards passing and four scoring strikes against zero interceptions in last week’s 34-29 win against the New York Giants.

Game Betting Trends

The Raiders are 0-2-2 ATS in their last four games against a team with a SU winning record, but they are 2-0-2 ATS in their last four games coming off a SU loss. The total has gone over in five of their last six Monday night games.

The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a SU losing record, and they are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU win. The total has gone over in 10 of their last 15 games on Monday night.

Oakland has covered ATS in four of its last five games against Philadelphia, and the total has stayed under in three of the last four meetings.

The Verdict

This has a good chance to be a highly entertaining game that remains competitive deep into the fourth quarter. Oakland will probably be playing for pride by the time this game rolls around, but I still like its chances to make the Eagles work for the SU win. Philly should have its high-powered offense in an extra gear in front of the home crowd and put some serious points on the board. It all adds up to a top NFL pick of over the current 47.5-point total line at SBR Odds
