The Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks both had tough season starts. While Seattle did pick up a big Week 1 win, it sits 1-1, while Atlanta has blown two close games.

The Falcons are down bad at the moment, losing a Week 1 game to a New Orleans Saints team which felt impossible to lose. They followed that up with another failure against the L.A. Rams in Week 2, though that contest was much closer.

Seattle ran into a letdown spot, and a tough San Francisco 49ers team, in Week 2. It’ll be looking to re-establish some momentum.

Here are our Falcons-Seahawks NFL football picks for Week 3 (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and PointsBet; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Falcons vs. Seahawks Odds Analysis

The Falcons opened up as 2.5-point underdogs, but this game has been bet all the way down around as a pick ‘em at some books. In fact, FanDuel is actually hanging the Falcons as one-point favorites while DraftKings has them as one-point underdogs.

DraftKings is reporting 60% of the bets and 77% of the handle on Atlanta, while the splits for the total are relatively even. The spread is definitely the line worth watching here, though.

Falcons vs. Seahawks Picks

  • Spread: Falcons +1 (-115 via DraftKings) ★★★★★
  • Over/Under: Under 42 (-110 via PointsBet) ★★★★
  • Prop: Cordarrelle Paterson over 44.5 rush yds (-110 via DraftKings) ★★★★★

Falcons vs. Seahawks ATS Pick

Falcons +1 (-115) ★★★★★

It could be so much worse for the Falcons right now. They haven’t won a game yet, but they’ve been strong in their losses. Offensively, the Falcons are 11th in passing Defense-adjusted Value Over Average and 13th in rushing. An 18th-place ranking in DVOA against the pass isn’t all that bad, either.

So, it might be tougher for Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith to carve up this Falcons defense than it was against the Denver Broncos in Week 1. Even then, Seattle managed just 17 points, and offensively it is 21st in DVOA. The Seahawks struggled to get seven points against the 49ers in Week 2, and while the Falcons aren’t the NFL's best defense, Seattle has some serious inefficiencies.

Atlanta showed some serious fight coming back from three scores down to challenge L.A. Falcons QB Marcus Mariota was very impressive, finding talented wideout Drake London for a late touchdown. Atlanta has more talent on offense and that's enough to flip this game for me.

Falcons vs. Seahawks O/U Pick

Under 42 (-110) ★★★★

While Mariota had an inspired second half against the Rams, let’s pump the brakes for a second. Atlanta averaged 3.3 yards per carry and Mariota went for 196 yards and two picks with two second-half touchdowns. Seattle may have one of the worst secondaries in football, but that alone isn't enough to push this game Over.

Seattle is equally inept at moving the ball, and that should really throw a wrench in getting points on the board. The Seahawks also rank 28th in pace and Atlanta 17th. I think the Falcons will take an early lead and fail to establish the run in the second half, but given the score they’ll keep handing it to running back Cordarrelle Patterson and company.

Falcons vs. Seahawks Prop Pick

Paterson Over 44.5 rush yds (-110) ★★★★★

The Falcons were weak on the ground against the Rams, but that had little to do with Patterson. The journeyman rushed for 4.1 yards per carry against a very solid rushing defense, and while Seattle is ninth in DVOA against the run, I think the quick math here makes sense.

All Patterson needs is 11 carries to get to this number, given he maintains his production, and I believe he will. 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. averaged 4.7 yards per carry last week and Patterson is more or less as talented.

On top of this, the game script should favor the Falcons’ rushing attack, and considering they’re fifth in rush play percentage, I’d bet on Patterson getting fed here.
