Our NFL betting expert was 2-0-1 during last week’s preseason action. He comes back fired up to analyze Saturday’s Philadelphia and Indianapolis preseason game and provide his exclusive free pick.

Saturday Dress Rehearsal for Eagles and Colts
The Eagles and Colts will meet on Saturday (8/27) in what will be the third preseason game for each team. The opening kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is slated for 7:00 PM ET. Current (8/24) NFL betting odds at TheGreek.com has the Colts as a 3.0-point favorite, and the posted total is 43.0. These teams met during the 2015 preseason, and Philadelphia won at home by a convincing margin of 36-10.

Soar Eagles Soar
Philadelphia has gone 2-0 SU&ATS through it first two preseason contests, outscoring Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh by a cumulative score of 34-9. During last week’s 17-0 shutout win at Pittsburgh, the Eagles defense recorded 4 first half interceptions. As a matter of fact, the Eagles had 7 takeaways during those pair of wins.

The Eagles offense has been uninspiring thus far. Nonetheless, projected starting quarterback Sam Bradford has seen just limited duty and has looked sharp in those brief appearances, going 15-20 (75%) for 118 yards. Bradford figures to see extensive playing time on Saturday. He’ll be relieved by veteran backup Chase Daniel who’s 14-26 (53.8%) for 97 yards, and also scored a rushing touchdown. Don’t expect to see a rookie quarterback and first overall pick Carson Wentz. He’s still recovering from a hairline fracture to his rib cage suffered during the Eagles preseason opener.

Weird Start for Indy
The Colts first two preseason games ended in identical 19-18 scores and resulted in a 1-1 record. Last week they lost at home to Baltimore, and it was decided in a uniquely strange manner. Indianapolis scored a go-ahead touchdown to take an 18-17 lead with 4:27 left to play. Nevertheless, on their ensuing two-point conversion try, it resulted in a pass interception that was returned for a Baltimore two-point score. Talk about an unusual twist of fate. Ironically enough, in their preseason opener, Buffalo scored on the final play of the 4th quarter to climb within 19-18. However, Indianapolis thwarted the Bills two-point attempt and held on for a win.

Star quarterback Andrew Luck made his preseason debut last week against Baltimore. Luck was extremely efficient, going 8-8 for 71 yards in his short-lived playing time. I fully expect Luck to play throughout the first half on Saturday, and possibly even an opening series following the intermission. Backup Scott Tolzien has acquitted himself well up to this point, going 13-18 (72.2%) for 107 yards and one touchdown pass.

NFL Preseason Betting Angles
Any team (Colts) that’s +3.0 to -3.0, coming off two straight games decided by exactly 1-point, and they’ve sustained at least one preseason loss, resulted in those teams going a perfect 7-0 SU&ATS since 1993. Their average margin of victory was a sizable 15.1 points per game.

Any preseason home favorite of 4.0 or less (Colts), coming off a home favorite straight up loss by 3 points or less, resulted in those home favorites going 17-4 ATS (81%) since 1983.

The Eagles defense has feasted off opposing team’s backup quarterbacks for better than seven of eight quarters played. Philadelphia also benefitted from being +5 in the turnover department, which in turn masked their somewhat poor offensive performances. With Andrew Luck making more than a cameo appearance on Saturday, I’m going to have a tiny lean towards the home favorite for one of my Saturday NFL picks.
