Week 7 NFL betting odds are on the board and we sift through the lot analysing some of the early markers in key matchups.
Week 7 NFL Odds and Preview
Week 7 serves up 14 games to spot on your NFL picks – with the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all coming off a bye week 6. Optimism is running high for three of these four looking to snap their respective negative streaks. Cowboys have lost three in a row, Raiders two in a row and the Rams are coming off a loss to the Packers in week 5. Only the Bucs are coming off a win and looking to build on it in week 7. Go figure!
Going into the bye in week 7 are the undefeated, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers (all 6-0 SU), along with the Chicago Bears (2-4 SU). The absence of three of the five undefeated teams on the season does take some punch out of the coming week’s NFL betting thrills, but there are plenty good matchups to sink your teeth into.
Patriots vs. Jets
Undefeated New England Patriots (5-0SU, 3-2 ATS) taking on divisional foes NY Jets in week 7 practically leaps off the page as one of the must-see matchups on Sunday’s slate. Predictably, the Patriots opened as the massive 9.5-point home faves, but after failing to cover as the closing 8.5 faves in a 34-27 winning effort on the road to the Colts the Patriots have come down by half-a-point. Of all the games on the week, there’s sure to be a lot of action on both sides of the coin. NY Jets strike a particularly attractive pose for sharp NFL bettors – they are one of the surprise packages of the season with a 4-1 SU record and they have a defense that could give Brady something to think about.
Seahawks vs. Niners
The NFC West showdown between the Seahawks and Niners is one of the more heated rivalries in the game, making it one of the matchups to spot in the week. Adding a new dimension to the clash, which gets week 7 underway on Thursday, is the fact that the pair is level 2-4 SU and propping up the NFC West table. Obviously, one side is going to improve to 3-4 SU when all is said and done. NFL odds makers seem to think it’s the Seahawks as they are installed as the 4-point road faves.
What the Niners deposited in week’s 2 and 3 was horrendous and cost them any sort of favoritism in NFL betting trades. It’ll be some time before they return into the good books both at home or the away. A win over the Seahawks might go some way towards that.
Both sides are struggling on the season, but NFL bettors are more surprised by the Seahawks’ struggles surely. They are 0-3 SU on the road and coming off a home loss to the Panthers that shook NFL betting circles in week 6. The Niners are 2-1 SU at home and 3-3 ATS overall on the season and showing some encouraging signs over the last few weeks.
Cowboys vs. Giants
Take a deep breath. Smell that? The alluring smell of optimism permeating the smoggy New York air, which if continues could reach dangerous levels and prompt a health advisory warning for the entire nation. Every fan base basks in the glow of future promise and so it is with the news of Matt Cassel’s debut for America’s beloved team the Cowboys. Since Romo’s injury, the Cowboys have been on a negative slide, losing three in a row – the last of which saw them flattened by the Zamboni Patriots 30-6.
Cassel’s mandate is to turnaround the Cowboys’ form. That they had a bye week to recover might prove auspicious. As it is, the NFL betting lines opened with the Giants as the whopping 7-point favorites, even though their week 6 game is not in the books yet. This might be a line best to wait on before placing your NFL picks because it could go either way depending on the result of MNF between Giants and Eagles, marking another NFC East clash.
