NFL Week 13 Early Odds, Opening Lines and Picks

Week 13 of the season brings crucial games with teams jockeying for playoff spots, but this is also a week of big spreads on the early NFL odds and lines.

A week after there were very few games with large spreads and four games that opened with a one-point spread, the schedule is different in Week 13, as there are seven games with a spread of seven points or more.

The story of this NFL season appears to be that many of the best teams are coming back to the pack, with few dominant squads overall. Let's see how that plays with the lopsided lines in Week 13.

Here's a look at the early NFL odds, along with my picks based on the opening lines for Week 13 (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale):

Cowboys (7-4 SU, 8-3 ATS, 5-6 O/U) vs. Saints (5-6 SU, 5-6 ATS, 6-5 O/U)

Opening line: Cowboys -6Opening total: 47.5

The Cowboys might be missing running back Ezekiel Elliott, but Tony Pollard is an able replacement and would still present an advantage over a Saints backfield that could be down to third-string rusher Tony Jones. Still, six points on the road is asking quite a bit from an up-and-down Dallas team.

Vikings (5-6 SU, 6-5 ATS, 5-6 O/U) vs. Lions (0-10-1 SU, 7-4 ATS, 3-8 O/U)

Opening line: Vikings -7Opening total: 46.5

The loss of Vikings running back Dalvin Cook to a dislocated shoulder could help level the playing field somewhat. Lions back D'Andre Swift suffered a sprained shoulder on Thanksgiving but might be able to play. The Lions are perfectly poised to keep it close and lose again in heartbreaking fashion.

Cardinals (9-2 SU, 8-3 ATS, 5-6 O/U) vs. Bears (4-7 SU, 4-7 ATS, 3-8 O/U)

Opening line: Cardinals -7.5Opening total: 45.5

Coming off a bye week and owning the best record in the NFL, the Cardinals ought to be a handful for a Bears team that went down to the wire with the winless Lions on Thanksgiving.

Buccaneers (8-3 SU, 5-6 ATS, 6-5 O/U) vs. Falcons (5-6 SU, 5-6 ATS, 5-6 O/U)

Opening line: Buccaneers -10.5Opening total: 50.5

There is not a lot to like about the Falcons, even coming off a win against Jacksonville. It seems Atlanta can handle the truly bad teams, but the Buccaneers have not had a double-digit road win this season so maybe the Falcons can keep it close enough.

Colts (6-6 SU, 7-4 ATS, 7-4 O/U) vs. Texans (2-9 SU, 5-6 ATS, 4-7 O/U)

Opening line: Colts -8.5 (-110)Opening total: 46.5 (-110)

After losing at home to the Jets, do the Texans have a shot to keep it close against the Colts? Houston lost 31-3 when they met in Indy and the Colts had won five of six before losing 38-31 to the Bucs in Week 12.

Eagles (5-7 SU, 6-5 ATS, 6-5 O/U) vs. Jets (3-8 SU, 3-8 ATS, 6-5 O/U)

Opening line: Eagles -7Opening total: 46.5

This might have been easier to assess before Week 12, but the Eagles lost 13-7 at the Giants and the Jets won 21-14 in Houston. Given the mediocrity, maybe getting seven points is a little more tempting.

Chargers (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS, 4-7 O/U) vs. Bengals (7-4 SU, 6-5 ATS, 5-6 O/U)

Opening line: Bengals -3Opening total: 50.5

Two teams that should be able to score. The Bengals have been impressive in two games since their bye week, outscoring Las Vegas and Pittsburgh by a combined 73-23 score. The Chargers have been alternating wins and losses in the past five weeks and are not easy to trust.

Giants (4-7 SU, 6-5 ATS, 3-7-1 O/U) vs. Dolphins (5-7 SU, 6-5-1 ATS, 5-7 O/U)

Opening line: Dolphins -3Opening total: 42.5

The new-and-improved Dolphins have won four straight games, allowing a total of 46 points against. The Giants have been more competitive in the past five games, aside from one blowout loss to Tampa Bay, but injuries have thinned out their receiving corps.

Washington (4-6 SU, 3-7 ATS, 5-5 O/U) vs. Raiders (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS, 6-5 O/U)

Opening line: Raiders -2.5Opening total: 49.5

Washington still has the Monday nighter against Seattle but has won back-to-back games going into that matchup. The Raiders snapped a three-game losing skid with their Thanksgiving win in Dallas, but star tight end Darren Waller suffered a knee injury that puts his status in doubt. We're still backing the Raiders on the early NFL odds for Week 13.

Ravens (8-3 SU, 4-6 ATS, 5-5 O/U) vs. Steelers (5-5-1 SU, 4-7 ATS, 4-6-1 O/U)

Opening line: Ravens -3Opening total: 44

The Steelers have been sinking, with back-to-back losses following a tie against Detroit and yet this is the kind of rivalry game for which they might show up. The Ravens eked out a win against Cleveland on Sunday, despite QB Lamar Jackson throwing four interceptions.

Jaguars (2-9 SU, 4-7 ATS, 2-9 O/U) vs. Rams (7-4 SU, 4-7 ATS, 6-4-1 O/U)

Opening line: Rams -13Opening total: 48

The Jaguars have lost three straight and while there is not much to like about them, getting 13 points by the early NFL odds against a Rams team that has also lost three straight games might be a little tempting.

Broncos (6-5 SU, 6-5 ATS, 2-9 O/U) vs. Chiefs (7-4 SU, 4-7 ATS, 5-6 O/U)

Even though the Broncos are coming off a clutch win against the Chargers in Week 12, QB Teddy Bridgewater did suffer a leg injury which could limit him this week. Denver will visit a Chiefs team that is looking more like they were expected to this season, winning four straight games and now coming off a bye week.

49ers (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS, 6-5 O/U) vs. Seahawks (3-7 SU, 5-5 ATS, 1-8-1 O/U)

Opening line: 49ers -2.5Opening total: 46.5

The 49ers have won three straight games, outscoring the Rams, Jaguars, and Vikings by a combined 95-46 score. The Seahawks were a different team when they beat the 49ers in Week 4. Even with QB Russell Wilson returning, Seattle has really struggled to move the ball in the past two losses and is a home underdog by the early NFL odds for Week 13.

Patriots (8-4 SU, 8-4 ATS, 6-6 O/U) vs. Bills (7-4 SU, 6-4-1 ATS, 5-6 O/U)

Opening line: Bills -3Opening total: 44.5

A Thanksgiving win at New Orleans got the Bills back on track, but they have had some consistency issues in recent weeks. The Patriots have won six straight games and five of them by at least two touchdowns, but we're sticking with Buffalo as a moderate favorite.
