Week 5 NFL Specials Picks

Panthers lowest-scoring team on Sunday (+700)

Through the first four games of the season, Carolina is scoring an average of 19.5 points per game. Twice they have failed to breach the 20-point barrier. Twice, they have managed to score only 16 points in a game. In Week 2, they lost to the N.Y. GIants with that total. Last week, they hit that ceiling in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

This week, they face a San Francisco 49ers defense that is allowing just 11.5 points per game, the fewest in the league. In Week 1, they surrendered 19 points to the Chicago Bears. In the three weeks after, they held teams to minimal scoring. In Week 2, the Seattle Seahawks posted a single touchdown in their matchup. The Denver Broncos won their matchup, but only scored 11 points in the process. Last week, they held the Los Angeles Rams, one of the most potent offenses in the league, to only nine points.

Home team points over away team points on Sunday  -40.5 (-110)

Each side of this prop has two wins. In three of the four, the winner of this prop easily cleared the 40.5-point spread. Last week was the lone exception with the home teams clearing the away teams by only 23 points.

Sunday’s games feature three of the league’s highest scoring teams playing their games at home. This includes the Baltimore Ravens who are third on the list, as well as the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns who are fifth and sixth in total points scored this season.

The 40-point cushion should be more than enough to help account for two other top-five teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions, playing on the road this week.

Kupp & Lamb: 20+ receptions combined (+800)

Cooper Kupp is far and away the leading pass catcher in Los Angeles. He leads the team with 54 total targets. Tyler Higbee is not even a close second as he has seen 38 of Matthew Stafford’s pass attempts. In three of four games, Kupp has seen at least 14 targets. In all of those, he has registered double-digit catches. Last week against the 49ers, he logged a season-high, 14 receptions.

A lot like Kupp, CeeDee Lamb is clearly the No. 1 receiver in Dallas. Even with Cooper Rush at QB, Lamb remains the Cowboys’ target leader. His quarterbacks have looked his way 42 times this season. He has caught just 23 of those. His highest reception total came against the Giants when he snared eight passes. He will likely contribute his share of this prop if he can repeat his six catches from last week.
