Divisional Round Playoffs Teasers: Finding The Best Mix

Colts at Chiefs

Saturday, 4:35 p.m. ET (NBC)

Best Lines Offered: Bovada

Here is what the teaser numbers look like for Saturday’s AFC Divisional Playoff contest:

  • Indianapolis +12.5 vs. Kansas City +0.5
  • Over 51 vs. Under 63

Just by the look on his face and his physical demeanor, Andy Reid does not look like the jolliest of people. Once he saw how easily Indianapolis handled Houston on the road, that probably did not make his mood any better, since his team fought for the No.1 seed in the AFC and they have to face the hottest team still remaining in the Colts, who are on a marvelous 10-1 run. For those making NFL picks, you could do worse than take the Chiefs for this teaser, since they just have to win the game and they are 31-4 vs. a teaser line after a win by 10 or more points. Yet, if you are thinking potential upset like this handicapper, it would be wiser to snag all the points with Indy. As I wrote here about the total in this game, K.C. has allowed 31.6 PPG to teams with winning records, like the Colts and scores 35.3 PPG. Grab the OVER.

Cowboys at Rams

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET (Fox)

Best Lines Offered: Pinnacle

Here is what the teaser numbers look like for Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Playoff battle:

  • Dallas +13 vs. L.A. Rams -1
  • Over 43.5 vs. Under 55.5

This NFC teaser is thought provoking. Do you take Dallas and trust their running game will run roughshod over a Rams run defense that surrendered an NFL-worst 5.1 yards a carry, which would likely keep the total score down? Or does the NFL’s top-scoring home team, residing literally in the City of Angles (not those pretenders formerly from San Diego) and ringing up 37.1 PPG, have their way against what seems to be a weakening Cowboys secondary and score at will and match season-average on points? It’s all about personal perspective and with the Rams 7-1 SU at home this season and the average score 65.2 total points, the value against the NFL odds seems to be the home team favored by a single digit and the OVER for a two-teamer teaser winner.

Chargers at Patriots

Sunday, 1:05 p.m. ET (CBS)

Best Lines Offered: Pinnacle

Here is what the teaser numbers look like for Sunday’s AFC Divisional Playoff contest:

  • L.A. Chargers +10 vs. New England +2
  • Over 39 vs. Under 51

Not going dance around this side teaser, choosing either team looks like a winner. Philip Rivers squad is 8-1 SU on the road and 9-1 this season in all away games from newly renamed soccer stadium. The Brady Bunch, they were 8-0 SU at home for the fourth time in the last decade. Unless one really feels strongly about one side or the other, not much too choose from. For a selection here, New England on principle because even a one-point outcome is a winner. On the teaser total, since 2016, when the Patriots have faced a winning team, the average total score has been 48.9 points, leading to OVER action.

Eagles at Saints

Sunday, 4:40 p.m. ET (Fox)

Best Lines Offered: Bovada

Here is what the teaser numbers look like for Sunday’s NFC Divisional Playoff joust:

  • Philadelphia +14 vs. New Orleans -2
  • Over 45.5 vs. Under 56.5

This is similar to Sunday’s other teaser in principle with one main difference. No question with how Philadelphia is playing and with the magic of Nick Foles, the Eagles are enticing. Nevertheless, with New Orleans, we pass thru key numbers like 7, 6 and 3 and are in a rather enviable position for the Saints to basically just win the contest, except for the rather one or two-point outcome. In looking at the total, do not see New Orleans reaching 48 points again like they did in on Nov. 18th and nor do we see Philly scoring 7 points again. The closing total on that day was six points higher than it is expected to be 55 days later and that was an UNDER for teasers and so will this one be.
