Sunday Night Football in Week 15 of the NFL regular season features an inter-conference matchup between two teams clinging to some pretty thin postseason hopes with the 7-6 Dallas Cowboys heading to the West Coast to tangle with the 6-7 Oakland Raiders.

Dallas has been able to keep these slim playoff hopes alive with a pair of division victories the past two weeks against Washington at home and the New York Giants on the road. It is now 7-6 both straight-up and against the spread this season including a 4-2 record ATS in six previous road games. The total stayed UNDER 42 points in last Sunday’s 30-10 victory against the Giants as four-point favorites and it has stayed UNDER in five of the Cowboys’ last six games.

It has been a bumpy ride for second-year quarterback Dak Prescott over the last five games without his star running back Ezekiel Elliott in the line-up due to a six-game league suspension. The Cowboys put a grand total of just 22 points on the board in the first three games (all losses) before posting 30 points or more in their last two outings. In Sunday’s win at New York, Prescott threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns while completing 20-of-30 passing attempts. More importantly, he ended that game with zero interceptions and zero sacks.

The Raiders are clinging to their playoff life in the AFC West after dropping a 26-15 decision to Kansas City in Week 14 as 4.5-point road underdogs. Their record ATS dropped to a costly 4-8-1 and the total has now stayed UNDER in their last four games. Oakland will play its final game of the regular season at the Coliseum with a 3-4 record ATS in its first seven home games this year.

The outcome of Sunday night’s game could hinge of the play of Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr, who has hardly resembled a model of consistency this season. While he has thrown for 2,942 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing a respectable 63.8 percent of his 420 passing attempts, he has also been picked off 10 times including two in Sunday’s loss to Kansas City. Overall, Oakland is ranked 22nd in the NFL in scoring with 20.3 points per game and it is 20th in points allowed (23.4).

Game Betting Trends

--The Cowboys have failed to cover in six of their last eight December games, but they improve to 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a SU losing record. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last nine games played in December.

--The Raiders have failed to cover seven of their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record and they are 2-4 ATS when closing as underdogs this season. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five December games.

--The home team in this matchup is a perfect 4-0 SU in the last four meetings, but the series is tied at 2-2 ATS over this same span. The final results on the total line in these four games are also tied 2-2.

Free Pick

The Cowboys have shown some signs of life in their last two games, but I am still concerned with how they played in their previous three games against stiffer competition with Elliott out of the lineup. The Raiders as a team have not been the model of consistency this season, but they are playing at home with just as much at stake on the outcome of this game. Take the three points at SBR Odds and make Oakland SU your top NFL pick in this one.
