Indianapolis and Denver have both been prone to defensive showdowns this season. Will a key injury for the Colts offense help to extend that trend Thursday? Here are our Week 5 Colts-Broncos Same Game Parlay picks.

The Colts must move forward this week without star running back Jonathan Taylor. How will their game plan against Denver change in the absence of Indy’s most significant player on offense?

Here are our same-game parlay picks for the Week 5 Thursday night matchup between the Colts and Broncos (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Same-Game Parlay Predictions for Colts vs. Broncos

Broncos -3.5 (-105) ★★★

Despite the marquee offseason addition of quarterback Russell Wilson, the Broncos haven’t had much success offensively in 2022. Denver ranks 30th in the NFL in points per game at just 16.5. Fortunately for the Broncos, their opponent for Thursday night has been even worse offensively this season and is missing its best player this week.

The Colts rank 32nd in the NFL in points per game this season, mustering an average of just 14.3. Their offseason quarterback splash, Matt Ryan, has panned out in a similar way to Denver’s. In two road games this season, the Colts scored 20 points in five quarters against Houston and were blanked by Jacksonville.

Ryan has thrown the same number of interceptions as he has touchdowns on the year and faces a Denver defense that has allowed just one touchdown and 19 total points in two home games this season. Without Taylor to sustain a rushing attack, the onus is on Ryan to carry the Colts on Thursday. With what we’ve seen so far, that doesn’t seem possible for the veteran quarterback in 2022. We’re riding with Russ, the lesser of two evils, because he’s got the superior defense and home-field advantage.

Under 42.5 (-115) ★★★★★

The Colts have only had one game this season that has exceeded 40 total points, last week’s loss to the Titans which only got to 41. The Broncos have been involved in some lower-scoring affairs, as well, with Week 4’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders the only total that has exceeded a paltry 32 points.

Denver’s two home games against San Francisco and Houston totaled 21 and 25 points, respectively. The Colts down their top running back are certainly no better offensively than either of those two previous home opponents for the Broncos.

With the Indianapolis offense forced to reconsider its DNA for this game in the absence of its workhorse running back, the Colts’ ability to sustain drives on Ryan's arm is a major question mark. Barring defensive scores to boost the action, this game may struggle to see 30 points.

Hines Over 26.5 receiving yards (-110) ★★★

Colts backup running back Nyheim Hines opened the season with receiving totals of 50 and 37 across his first two games before seeing less work in Weeks 3 and 4. That snap share is destined to rise this week, though, with Hines soaking up an increased role due to Taylor’s injury.

Though Phillip Lindsay is expected to draw a healthy portion of the rushing workload vacated by Taylor, the lead rusher’s injury provides Frank Reich an opportunity to use the versatile Hines with more frequency. With the projection that the Broncos win and cover the spread, Hines could gobble up passing down work and gain looks in the two-minute offense late in the game. The Broncos have allowed more than 30 receiving yards to running backs in each of their last two games.

The most comparable total for Hines’ receiving yards at DraftKings is Over 24.5 (-155), which would bring the combined parlay odds to +500. We’re choosing to ask for an extra two yards from Hines on the FanDuel line to raise the combined parlay odds to +596.

Combined Odds: Broncos -3.5 (-105) + Under 42.5 (-115) + Hines Over 26.5 Receiving Yards (-110) = +596
