The Kansas City Chiefs beat the football odds and won the AFC West last year. They’re kicking off the 2017 season with a road game vs. the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Good news, folks: The 2017 NFL schedule has been released, and that means we’ve got our first NFL odds fresh out of the oven. I’ll be guiding you through the four teams in the AFC West, and fittingly enough, the division champions have the honor of playing in the 2017 opener. Unfortunately for the Kansas City Chiefs, they’ll kick things off in Foxborough against the New England Patriots. Kansas City opened as 7-point underdogs to the defending Super Bowl champs.

Here’s the Chiefs' regular-season schedule for 2017:

So the Chiefs get to play the entire AFC East, not just the Patriots. They also get the NFC East, so watch out for the famous “West Coast teams playing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern” trend when you’re making your NFL picks in Weeks 11 and 13. The other two games are against fellow division winners: away vs. the AFC South’s Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football, and at home vs. the AFC North’s Pittsburgh Steelers. Not a very forgiving schedule by the looks of it.

Then again, the Chiefs get to face everyone in the AFC West twice, and with the Oakland Raiders playing the first of up to three lame-duck seasons at the Coliseum before moving to Las Vegas, these divisional games could be Kansas City’s road back to the playoffs. More on the Raiders later; in the meantime, get ready for some NFL handicapping, and may the prolate spheroid be with you.
