The Chicago Bears have been flying up the NFL Odds boards this offseason, and right now they have become one of the favorites to take down the NFC. Let’s take a look at one of the bigger movers in the futures odds, and see if they still have value.
Super Bowl (+1400)
At Bovada right now, the Bears are at 14:1 to win the Super Bowl, which is amazing considering at LVH Sportsbook earlier this offseason, they were sitting at 30:1. I hope you all took my advice and took some of that action this offseason, because right now Chicago has been getting a lot of hype. After a successful season under head coach Marc Trestman, the Bears have re-stocked on defense. They have brought in a new pass rush centered around Lamarr Houston and Jared Allen, and they have brought back their excellent corner duo of Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman. After a season where their defense gave up a ton of yards due to all of the injuries they sustained, this season looks like it’s going to be a return to the Bears’ defense of old.
If the Bears are able to break down people on defense again, this team has nearly unlimited upside. Their offense was one of the best in the NFL last season, and that was without their star quarterback, Jay Cutler for half the season. Now with Cutler healthy for the 2014 year, the Bears could have one of the best offenses in the NFL. They have the best receiver tandem in the league with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, and to go along with those two they also have one of the league’s best running backs, and one of the best ten tight ends in football. All the Bears have to do is stay healthy this year, and they might return to a ten-win football team. Beating the Packers and the rest of the NFC will be tough, but they surely have the firepower to do so. Don’t hesitate to bet the Bears this summer, because as we’ve seen, the sportsbooks are catching on to the fact that Chicago may be one of the better teams this season.
NFC North (+250)
However every time it seems like the Bears have a shot to win the NFC North division, the Packers find someway to upset them. However even though Green Bay is going to be a very talented football team this season, the Bears are just as good. Last season it seemed as if Chicago was going to run away with the North after Aaron Rodgers went down for the Packers. However Cutler went down just a few weeks later, and the Packers ended up winning the division at 8-7-1. Green Bay is a little overvalued in the NFL Odds from Bovada at -110 to win the North, and it would seem as if the Bears have the value at +250. They have a more diverse offense, and their defense is going to create some turnovers this season. It all falls into the hands of Cutler really, and if he can keep pace with the Packers, the Bears will be right there.
