Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Two teams looking to bounce back from bad losses last week. Winnipeg was drubbed 36-22 in Calgary while Hamilton suffered a rough home opener in a 28-3 blowout loss against BC. Winnipeg’s offense has yet to find its footing and has hinted at playing more uptempo this week. Hamilton’s offense had a fantastic performance in Week 1 but got shut down by the 2-0 BC Lions last week. Whoever gets their offense on track this week likely has the edge.

Calgary Stampeders vs. Ottawa Redblacks
Ottawa QB Trevor Harris has an 82% completion rate, 6-0 TD-INT ratio and a 158 QB rating since taking over for the injured veteran QB Henry Burris halfway through Week 1 against Edmonton as he’s led the Redblacks to two impressive road wins at Edmonton and Montreal. They return home for their first game of the season in Ottawa at TD Place but it won’t be easy with the Calgary Stampeders coming to town and feeling good about themselves again as they rebounded from a road loss to BC in Week 1 with a dominating 36-22 win over Winnipeg last week which wasn’t as close as the score indicates. Calgary QB Bo Levi Mitchell was rock solid last week and the Stamps defense looks to be among the league’s elite stop units again which should be a stiff challenge for this red hot Ottawa offense led by their extremely impressive QB.

Toronto Argonauts vs. BC Lions
BC is 2-0 SU and ATS and I have cashed in with the Lions in both of their victories and this team continues to show they are much improved and very much a threat not only in the West Division but also the Grey Cup picture in 2016. This is not a team I have any interest in betting against right now as the Lions have had a dominant defense through two weeks ranked tops in the CFL in points allowed and 2nd in all major yardage categories allowed. They should present a major challenge for Toronto’s offense which hasn’t exactly clicked for a full game yet even last week against Saskatchewan, the Argos offense mostly stalled out after two quick early TD’s.

BC’s offense was better last week against Hamilton and QB Jonathon Jennings certainly has more mobility than his counterpart Ricky Ray in this QB battle and that could matter in this game when talking about two defensive lines that have the potential to be dominant for both teams. BC is also 2-0 Under the total so far this season and that is an early season trend that has developed not by accident and there could be more value in the total here sitting at 50 to look at this game Under the total.

CFL Week 3 - Play Of The Week

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Edmonton Eskimos
The Saskatchewan Roughriders came up empty in a 30-17 home loss to Toronto last week in the debut of Riders head coach and GM Chris Jones but the team will be highly motivated to bounce back against Edmonton as Jones faces his old team for the first time since leaving Edmonton for Saskatchewan in the offseason. Saskatchewan QB Darian Durant should have a better game here after shaking some of the rust off last week in his first time back on the field in a regular season game since early last season.

Edmonton’s offense led by QB Mike Reilly should benefit from a bye week to get on track here but their defense leaves a lot to be desired as they got gashed in a big way by Ottawa in their first game allowing 45 points and over 500 yards of offense. The defense suffered a ton of personnel depletion from last season particularly in the secondary and it could take a while for the Eskimos to grow together and start locking things down on the defensive side of the football.

Saskatchewan didn’t play awful in their loss to Toronto last week as they outgained the Argos by 137 yards but costly turnovers and penalties were the difference and Toronto capitalized on them. I expect Saskatchewan to play a cleaner game here and to be extremely motivated due to their head coach Chris Jones returning to Edmonton providing strong effort and putting CFL odds in their favor. The Eskimos had a very leaky defense on display in Week 1 and that is a very notable flaw to have when being asked to lay double digits in a game. I will look toward Saskatchewan as a double digit dog to hang tough in Edmonton as my Week 3 CFL pick.
