CFL Week 15 Game Preview and Free Pick

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have the unenviable task of trying to snap a three-game skid this Saturday on the road at McMahon Stadium against the surging Calgary Stampeders.

Winnipeg Overview

Winnipeg has clearly established itself as the worst team in the CFL this season with just two straight-up victories on the year against 11 losses. The Blue Bombers are slightly better against the spread at 4-9 and the total has gone OVER in seven of their 13 games. They are 3-3 ATS on the road this season with the total staying UNDER in five of the six games.

The problems with this team have been across the board starting with an offense that has had major trouble finding the end zone. Winnipeg is ranked last in the CFL in scoring with an average of 20.6 points a game. Last week in a 53-17 drubbing at the hands of British Columbia, Blue Bombers’ quarterback Max Hall completed 14-of-24 passes for 169 yards and two scores, but he was also picked-off twice. The defense has been equally as bad this season; allowing a league-high 32.4 points a game.

Calgary Overview

At the opposite end of the spectrum and in the driver seat in the West Division are the 10-3 Calgary Stampeders. They have won five of their last six games SU with a 3-3 record ATS. On the year, Calgary is 8-5 ATS with the total going OVER in seven of its 13 games. It is 5-1 SU (3-3 ATS) at home this season and the total has gone OVER betting odds in five of the six games. The Stampeders are the highest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 31.4 points a game and their defense is ranked second in points allowed; giving-up an average of 24 points a game.

Kevin Glenn has quietly gone about his way at quarterback this season with 1,729 yards passing and 12 touchdowns while completing a very efficient 67.9 percent of his throws. The real strength of this offense has been Calgary’s running game led by Jon Cornish. He is currently second in the CFL in rushing with 1,207 yards on 183 carries. He is also tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with eight.

Winnipeg vs. Calgary Free CFL Pick

There is no doubt that Winnipeg is the bottom of the barrel in the CFL this season and it is facing possibly the best team in the league this Saturday. While Calgary should have little trouble posting the SU win at home, covering a huge 16-point spread could be a bit more challenging. This is still professional football and you never want to have to lay that many points no matter how wide the gap in talent may be. That being said, there should be enough points scored to take the total OVER the 54.5-point line which is my free CFL pick in this contest.
